WWF, the Global Conservation Organization, through its office in Kenya, is seeking to fill the following position:

Position title: Project Manager, Energy & Climate Change

Reports to: Governance Coordinator
 Supervises: Project Assistant: Sustainable Energy
 Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Major Functions: Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Governance Coordinator, the Project Manager will be responsible for developing WWF Kenya’s Energy portfolio into a coherent and well-articulated programme in line with WWF’s Global Climate and Energy Initiative (GCEI) and the WWF Africa Office Strategic Plan and country interests. 

The manager will also facilitate vibrant engagement with civil society, the government and the private sector in the energy and related aspects in Kenya. S/he will also support the coordination and lesson sharing among WWF Teams and key partners in the respective projects.

The holder will support the Governance Coordinator in contributing to WWF’s Africa vision by harnessing WWF’s power through mobilizing people, knowledge, and partnerships within the energy and climate change sectors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Energy Programme Manager specific duties and responsibilities will be as follows:Take lead in the development of WWF Kenya Energy programme including the implementation of energy and energy-related projects and ensuring linkages with other internal and relevant external projects/programs.Lead in identifying and facilitating energy/climate change sector partner engagements including with development partners, civil society, government and private sector alongside fostering necessary rapport with other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration programme implementation.Take lead to ensure that the programme and associated project objectives and activities are achieved in a timely, cost-efficient and effective manner and where applicable in collaboration partners including providing technical inputs and management support to ongoing project and other activities including research, organising and facilitating meetings, preparing technical documents and managing the programme on a day to day basis.Be responsible for the planning and implementation of relevant training as well as follow up and mentoring of training participants in close cooperation with other partners;Provide leadership and oversight in project development and implementation, including financial accounting according to WWF guidelines.Facilitate strategic energy and climate change sector processes and promote the sharing of lessons and experiences with partners.Follow-up on project activities implemented under partner agreements, consultancies or similar arrangements, and ensure their timely and quality delivery.Prepare and submit quality and timely work plans, budgets and technical progress reports to WWF Kenya, the WWF regional office, donors and other partners as applicable.Communicate important developments in project implementation and management to participating organisations on a regular basis.Synthesize available information on petroleum development and develop strategic options and policy recommendations.Participate in media-opportunities (radio shows, tv, other) as requested and/or as appropriate.Develop cross-learning and exchange with other WWF Network, partners in Kenya, the region, and internationally as needed.Lead in the development and implementation of a suitable monitoring and Evaluation Plan Energy programme and associated projects.Work with other staff including the policy, landscape officers among others on areas of mutual interest to the projects and programmes within WWF Kenya ;Work closely with the Governance Coordinator to ensure successful delivery of the WWF Kenya energy and climate programme and associated projectsPerform any other similar duties as assigned by the supervisorManagement and Administration of third party contracts:Monitor relevant vendor and consultant contract implementation and supervise as appropriate.Plan and work with WWF finance team to fulfil internal and external budget tracking and reporting requirements.Work with the communication team to inform and share lessons issues at Country OfficeRequired Qualifications and ExperiencesA Masters degree in Energy and/or Climate Studies, Renewable Energy, Development Studies, Environmental and Natural Resource Management or related fields.At least 5 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 3 years work experience on energy or related issues is a requirement.Strong interpersonal and networking skills are a requirementExperience in implementing community mobilization, broad-based awareness raising, advocacy, lobbying and capacity building (e.g training, workshop facilitation and capacity building) is preferable.Practical experience in organization development, civil society engagement, communication, lobbying and policy advocacy engaging civil society, private sector and government on sustainable energy-related issues is a requirementPreferred Skills and Competencies:Strong interpersonal and networking skills are desirable.A proven ability to work independently as well as in teams is desired.Experience in environmental and natural resource management is an added advantage.Excellent partnership, relationship management and diplomatic skills;Strong planning and analytical skills;Excellent organizational skills and a strong capacity to work independently;Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;Good command of English and Kiswahili both written and spokenAbility to work under tight deadlines, and high pressure situations;Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined, and Engaging.External and Internal: Works with WWF field project teams; civil society, clean energy and policy officers, civil society, governments at national and county levels; and private sector. academia, think-tank institutions, development organisations among others.
