The Rhodes Scholarships at Oxford University

Every year, scholars from 14 countries around the world, including two from Kenya, earn the privilege of becoming Rhodes Scholars by demonstrating their outstanding intellectual and academic ability, integrity of character, strong leadership abilities, energy and drive, and their commitment to public service.

The Rhodes Scholarships offer full funding for two years’ study and are tenable only for full time post-graduate study at the University of Oxford.

Scholarships for 2014 / 2015

Kenyatta University announces 100 new scholarships for needy and talented students for the academic year starting September 2014/2015. 

This is in line with the KU mission of enhancing access to higher education. A further 20 scholarships are available for Masters Students.
 Kenyatta University is offering Ninety (90) Scholarships for Orphans and Vulnerable Students (OVS) from Kenya seeking to pursue undergraduate degrees at KU. The scholarships will cover the full tuition cost beginning the academic year 2014/2015 for OVS who are admitted to KU programmes.
Partial OVS scholarships are also available for continuing students pursuing various degrees at KU.
 
There are Five (5) Scholarships for exceptionally talented sportsmen and women to study Bachelor degrees in Recreation Science and Sports Management, and Exercise and Sports Science.
 C: Scholarship for Performing Arts
There are Five (5) Scholarships for exceptionally talented students in Music, Fine Art and Theatre Arts.
 
Minimum C+ Mean grade in 2012 or 2013 KCSE
Interested applicants are advised to seek admission from KU.
Applicants must also provide evidence of being needy and/or talented for the indicated degrees. Special consideration will be given to students who are vulnerable including orphans, students from marginalized and geographical disadvantaged areas. The scholarships are awarded as a grant from Kenyatta University in collaboration with Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). HELB will offer a loan for part of the tuition fee which will be repaid subject to recovery conditions upon completion of your degree.
All interested applicants must submit the following to KU Financial Aid Office by June 27th 2014: Filled application form, copy of admission letter to KU, certified copies of relevant certificates / transcripts and, reference letter and copy of Kenyan National ID.

Oshwal Aid and the Higher Education Loans Board reserves the right to discontinue the scholarship for students who fail to obtain the required grades for progression in the course of study or do not obtain satisfactory progress report from the university.

The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi fund will offer a limited number of partial scholarships tenable at the University of Nairobi, for Masters and Postgraduate Diploma studies during the 2011/2012 academic year.

Interested candidates are invited to apply for the scholarship by filling in a formal application/re-application
form available in Room A112 Administration Block, Main Campus after presenting a receipt of a non-refundable application fees of Kenya Shillings Five Hundred Only (KShs. 500.00).

This amount should be deposited into the University of Nairobi Account Number: 03-094-8245531, Barclays Bank of Kenya - Queensway House Branch at any Barclays Bank of Kenya branch. The bank deposit slip should then be taken to the Student Finance Office (Room G4), for
receipting.

Applicants must attach to the completed form a letter of offer (Notice of eligibility) to study at the University of Nairobi for a Masters or Postgraduate Diploma programme (not PhD) and must have attained at least an Upper Second Class Honours or its equivalent at Bachelors Level.

OVS Scholarships

Kenyatta University is offering Two (2) Scholarships for Orphans and Vulnerable Students(OVS) from Kenya seeking to pursue undergraduate degrees at KU.

The scholarships will cover the full tuition cost beginning the academic year 2011/2012 for OVS who have already been admitted to KU programmes.

Requirements: Minimum C+ Mean grade in 2009 or 2010 KCSE.

OVS Scholarships for Continuing Students

There are Ten (10) Partial Scholarships for tuition for full time students already in session at KU for the year beginning September 2011/2012.

The scholarship will cover 40% tuition costs beginning the academic year 2011/2012 for students with proven high performance and genuine need of financial assistance.

RUSA Scholarships

There are Ten (10) Partial Scholarship for tuition for full time students who must have been in session in the previous semester.

The scholarship will cover 25% tuition costs beginning the academic year September 2011/2012 for students with proven high performance and genuine need of financial assistance.

KU Internal Bursary

Internal bursaries are for students already enrolled into Kenyatta University programmes and are awarded based on the need of vulnerable students.

The application should be supported by a Letter from either the principal/head teacher, chief or pastor.

Note: The application is made through the Dean of Students.

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), a state corporation with die mandate to supervise, regulate and develop the insurance industry in Kenya is offering six (6) scholarships to Kenyans interested in pursuing Actuarial Science courses at the Cass Business School, United Kingdom.

The scholarship will cater for tuition, travel, accommodation and any other incidental expenses.

1. Scholarships for Bachelor of Actuarial Science

Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:

Should have scored a mean grade of A in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an A grade in Mathematics and EnglishShould have completed secondary education in the last 3 years.2. Scholarship for Master of Science Degree in Actuarial Management/ Science

Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:

Should have obtained Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science (First Class Honours) or an equivalent Actuarial Science qualification.Should have graduated not more than five years ago.Should have obtained a mean grade of "A"in the KCSE examsShould have made significant progress towards becoming Associate Members of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.Preliminary application forms are available and can be downloaded from the IRA website i.e. http://www.ira.go.ke/

Scholarships for Kenyans.

Every year, scholars from14 countries around the world, including two from Kenya, earn the privilege of becoming Rhodes Scholars by demonstrating their outstanding intellectual and academic ability, integrity of character, strong leadership abilities, energy and drive, and their commitment to public service.

The Rhodes Scholarships offer full funding for two years study and are tenable only for full time post graduate study at the University of Oxford.

The Rhodes Scholarships Selection Committee for Kenya, invites Scholarships applications  from Kenyans for the year of study commencing October 2012.

In addition to exhibiting the above characteristics, Kenyan applicants must meet the following basic minimum criteria:

be holders of a first class or a high upper second class degree(Min.68% or GPA 3.7)
be Kenyan citizens
have been resident in Kenya for at least 5 of last 10 years
will be aged between 19 and 27 on 1st October 2012

Government Scholarships for the People’s Republic of China 2011/2012

The China Government is offering twenty nine (29) scholarships to Kenyans in both undergraduate and post graduate studies.

They are in the following categories:

* Undergraduates : 13
* Postgraduates : 16

Eligibility

Undergraduate:

Studies in Engineering and Medicine

* Minimum KCSE mean grade of B+ with a minimum of grade ‘B’ in Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry
* Not more than 23 years of age.
* Only those candidates who completed secondary education in the last 3 years need apply.

Postgraduate:

Studies in Engineering, Medicine, Computer Science and Pharmacy.

Eligible candidates are only those who:

* Are serving the country in the public sector.
* Completed two (2) years of continuous service since their last degree studies
* Graduated in the last ten (10) years
* Are below 34 years for Masters and 40 years old for PhD. Programmes.

Note:

* For masters degree application one must have attained 1st class or Upper Second Class Honours degree from a recognized university.
* For PhD studies application one must be a holder of a Masters degree with good grades from a recognized university

Application Procedure

Preliminary application forms are obtainable from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology offices at Telposta Towers, 27th floor room 2702 or Provincial Technical Training Offices.

The application forms can also be downloaded from the Ministry’s website: www.scienceandtechnology.go.ke.

Candidates for postgraduate studies should submit their application forms through their heads of departments (HODS).

Completed application forms with attached certified photocopies of ID, academic/professional certificates, transcripts, birth Certificate, school leaving certificate and other testimonials should be sent or delivered to:
