INTERSOS is an independent non-profit humanitarian organization committed to assist the victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts.

INTERSOS first started to work in Somalia in 1992. It immediately assisted 37,000 refugees that in the previous months had left their land in search of food and a safe living environment.

From that point forth, Intersos has operated in various regions in central-southern Somalia (Bay-Bakol, Ghedo, Lower and Middle Shebelle, Lower Giuba, Benadir) principally with activities focusing on reconstruction or reactivation of health and sanitation structures, locating drinking water, and agricultural development.

NTERSOS has launched a new intervention in response to the emergency situation in the Horn of Africa.

The famine has led to a crisis situation as populations flee the worst drought in almost six decades.

Role, Task and Responsibilities

The Head of Mission is the organisation’s official representative in the country and is responsible for the planning, management and implementation of the country program on the basis of defined strategies.

He/she Manage and coordinate operations and human resources in the country.

Specifically he/she is responsible to:

Purpose / Objectives:

Based in Nairobi Intersos office, the candidate will be involved in coordinating, implementing and monitoring all of the activities planned for Intersos Somali Family Tracing and Reunification Project.

In particular:

Maintaining contact with all the stakeholders involved, (including the donors of the project) in connection with, and on the instructions of the Mission HeadContributing, elaborating and setting up INTERSOS strategies, and contributing to the elaboration of possible new intervention projects.Management of human resources assigned to the project.Financial planning and the execution of the procedures as planned by INTERSOS and the donors, from the point of view of the administrational management and of the intermediate and final accountability reports of the project.Plan, schedule and track project timelines, milestones and deliverables.Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.Bachelors degree in any one of the following or a related field from a recognized university: Social Sciences, MBA, or Development studies.Demonstrated ability to design and conduct baseline surveys, develop work plans, design monitoring tools and prepare regular project reports.Experience with International organizations workingin Monitoring and Evaluation of programmes, budgeting, and working in bilateral or multilateral programmes.Experience in family tracing and reunification programs.Fluency in spoken and written English (Fluency in Somali an added advantage.)Computer skills, deep knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.Must have working permit to work in KenyaThis is a local position with local (Kenyan) salary.

Role, Task and Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate 2 protection monitor supervisors and 2 psychosocial counselors in conducting protection monitoring activities, mainly Rapid protection Assessment, in remote areas, advice desks duties ( protection monitor supervisors ) and counseling activities (psychosocial counselors)Conduct together with protection monitor supervisors (PMS) and psychosocial counselors (PC) Gender based violence awareness and information campaign in targeted areas and support closely the response given by the counselors in term of psychosocial support, material assistance and livelihood activities for the gender based violence survivors.Contribute together with the protection coordinator to built the capacity of the Community based organization working in partnership with Intersos in implementing the activities. Training on GBV prevention and respond as well as Protection Rapid assessment trainings will be provide to the CBO by the protection officer and the protection coordinator.Close and daily follow up of the CBO activities together with the protection monitors supervisors and the psychosocial counselors.Meet regularly with service providers/agencies/NGO and relevant Internally displaced people/local community committees including women to ensure regular coordination mechanism among them for the protection and assistance of the person with special needs.Prepare weekly/monthly reports on the situation of the IDPs sites as well as host community and on the implemented activities.Follow up closely the management of the GBV Information Management System to make sure that gender based violence cases are recorder in a systematic manner by the database clerk.Contribute to identify new needs to be addressed in IDPs areas and surrounding areas in consultation with the population and leaders.Participate to Protection meetings on issues related to protection in general as well as to GBV and child protection at County and State level where to report the situation on the ground and coordinate with other partners on follow up of cases.Know the profile of the IDPs population by age and gender and know which groups have specific needs;Map out the protection support and activities which agencies and NGOs provide in the areas with a view to identifying possible gap areas;Along with the livelihood expert coordinate the livelihood activities ( skills training, IGA for CBOs, seeds and tools distribution) and supervise closely the selection of the beneficiaries among the most vulnerable.At least 2 year experience working in protection related issues with refugees, Internally displaced people and local community or community services, community development.Degree in social work, international affairs or law.Fluency in spoken and written English.
