The World Bank Group is seeking applications for an Occupational Health Nurse based in Nairobi, Kenya to provide support to the Regional Medical Advisors serving East and Southern Africa. The Occupational Health Nurse will: provide recommendations to WBG country offices in the region on health related matters (such as occupational health); provide logistical assistance in the case of medical evacuation for staff and dependents; facilitate medical care for staff or dependents suffering from severe chronic illnesses; and conduct health promotion/education, wellness activities. This position will not provide direct clinical care. The ideal applicant will have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 8 years’ professional clinical experience, and valid and current nursing licensure. Experience working in occupational health settings desirable. Overseas work experience is a plus.

To provide and co-ordinate the daily activities of the Programme's Occupational Health Service so as to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees and continued compliance with Occupational Health Safety statutory requirements and current best practices.

Reporting Lines:

Post holder will Report to the Health and Safety Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct health surveillance programmes including prevention of infection and any form of workplace injury in individuals potentially at risk from their work and in staff who need to travel for work.Proactively work towards the prevention of laboratory allergic sensitisers and continuously monitor individuals working with toxic, infectious materials or any other hazardous substances.Review and assess pre-employment medical history forms and carry out appropriate follow ups and referrals.Participate in developing and implementing an Occupational Health Database for the Programme.Give occupational health seminars, presentations and induction sessions; train/ teach first aiders who require specialised training for work-related hazards.Coordinate implementation of preventative health promotion and education clinics for staff on both occupational and non-occupational health risks.Undertaking workplace risk assessments, for example, ergonomics of work stations, stress at workplace, etc, present findings and make  appropriate recommendations based on assessment.As a member of the Health and Safety Committee, actively participate and provide written recommendations to the Committee on all aspects of occupational health nursing requirements.Liaise with staff from other relevant service departments, for example the Fire Wardens and Safety Officers.Coordinating pre-employment, annual and specialised medical examinations, health surveillance activities, administering vaccines to staff and keeping accurate records.Participate as a key player in the First Aid Programme and contribute technical support during first aid continuous professional development sessions.And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.Skills and Competence:

ILRI seeks to recruit an Occupational Health & Safety Officer (Operations) to work within the Occupational Health & Safety Department.

Responsibilities
* Coordinate the following Environmental programs at ILRI: Pest Control, and Kitchen hygiene.
* Coordinate the Waste Management Plan and radiation hygiene plan for ILRI-Nairobi
* To organise and arrange for EOHS training for operations and Office staff both internally and externally and attend training as required
* Coordinate the following occupational health and safety programs at ILRI: First Aid and Fire.
* Coordinate kitchen safety, transport safety, engineering safety and office safety inspection in line with Kenyan regulatory requirements and other international regulations.
* Coordinate risk assessment in the office, transport, engineering, and kitchen.
* Accompany staff from the safety representatives and external agencies (regulators and contractors) during workplace inspections of the kitchen, engineering, transport and offices.
* Follow up on any deficiencies noted during these inspections or by external inspectors, and ensure that they are corrected.
* Coordinate the accident and incident management program and maintain accident/ incident program within the kitchen, transport, engineering and office.
* Coordinate the safety representatives meetings and take the minutes of discussions.
* Coordinates plans, and implements the actions and recommendations of the institute Safety representatives; provides technical assistance and advice to the Committee.
* `Carry out a PPE needs assessment for all work areas and ensure all work areas are supplied with the right PPE.
* Carry out fit testing for respiratory PPE for all staff
* Coordinate application of licences/permits from regulatory agencies in liaison with the EOHSO.
* Maintain an Environmental management plan for ILRI.
* Maintain an traceable and auditable filling system for EOHS department
* Take minutes during all EOHS committee meetings.
* Assisting in any other issues that involve EOHS office

Skills and Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field and post graduate training in EHS.
* Minimum 1 to 2 years relevant experience
* Well developed computer skills in Word, PowerPoint and Excel and web
* Good personal organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail required
* Highly effective multi-tasking skills, with ability to coordinate, prioritize, and organize workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure
* Capacity to take initiative, demonstrate good judgment, and work under minimal supervision
* Good written and communication skills

Terms of appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Job level and salary
This position is job level 2C and starting salary is KES is 105,000 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided within ILRI’s National Recruited Staff Scheme.
