The World Bank Group is seeking applications for an Occupational Health Nurse based in Nairobi, Kenya to provide support to the Regional Medical Advisors serving East and Southern Africa. The Occupational Health Nurse will: provide recommendations to WBG country offices in the region on health related matters (such as occupational health); provide logistical assistance in the case of medical evacuation for staff and dependents; facilitate medical care for staff or dependents suffering from severe chronic illnesses; and conduct health promotion/education, wellness activities. This position will not provide direct clinical care. Full Time Faculty and Programme Director, Obstetrics and Gynaecology


Reporting to the Chair, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and liaising with the Director, Postgraduate Medical Education, the incumbent will offer full time Obstetrics and Gynaecology clinical services as well as fill the role of Program Director. In the latter role, s/he will develop, implement and monitor the content and quality of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology residency program.

Dental Surgeon (Nairobi, Kakamega, Busia, Arusha, Kampala)
The Dental Unit is a state of the art dental set up with fully equipped dental chairs. The Dental Surgeon will review patients and monitor patients’ progress on a regular basis.
S/he will be expected to work with a team of staff to ensure optimal delivery of quality patient care.
Applicants must have a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and be registered with the relevant Medical Board in the respective country. S/he should have at least three (3) years relevant practice including one year internship from a reputable institution (including composites, root canal therapy, crowns and bridges).
Radiation Therapy Technologist
The Radiation Therapy Technologist will be responsible for providing accurate, timely and efficient simulation and delivery of prescribed radiation treatment while maintaining quality patient care. S/he will maintain updated records and ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and accessories.
Applicants must possess a Diploma or Degree in Radiation Therapy or a Diploma in Radiography with a certificate in Radiation Therapy and at least 1 year’s working experience in a modern and busy radiotherapy department. Knowledge of working with linear accelerators and CT simulation will be an added advantage.

Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, research, care and treatment program in Kenya. It is a rapidly expanding program. The program is seeking motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancies in the Partners Demonstration Study. This is an open-label, pilot demonstration and evaluation project of antiretroviral-based HIV-1 prevention among high-risk discordant couples in heterosexual relationships, based at Lumumba Health Centre - Kisumu.

Head Nurse Maternity / Theatre

Description

The Head Nurse (Maternity/Theatre) is directly responsible to the Hospital Matron and is the overall in charge of the EMOC unit assigned to and would therefore work as both supervisor and team leader of the whole team. 

He / She will ensure the smooth running of the three components of the unit i.e. Maternity, theatre and the Newborn unit.

Key responsibilities

Program management:

Develop and provide SOP’s, policies and procedures on the running of EMOC facility services covering staffing-(establish the critical number of staff present in the unit) and equipmentEnsure adherence to polices and guidelines with reference to nursing practice, infection control and prevention, health and safety and health care waste management.Ensure adherence to nursing practice and procedures leading to an improvement in nursing care with emphasis on nursing care process, nursing procedures, documentation, partographingStrengthen linkages between the facility and CHP and Nutrition problems in the spirit of program integration to ensure achievements of the health program goals and objectives.The head nurse assigns duties to nurses and develops work schedules to ensure that patient areas have a full staff.
The head nurse sets performance objectives together with the nurses and performs interim and end of year evaluations.
The head nurse will be responsible for the orientation and training of new staff members in the patient area.

Program activities:

The head nurse performs inspections of patient rooms and areas to ensure Cleaning personnel maintain cleanliness standards.Lead nurses order supplies to the Hospital Matron for the patient area such as drugs, equipment and medical supplies or directs the activities of workers responsible for ordering materials. This includes maintenance of drug records for the patient area.Maintain a departmental work plan and monitor progress towards achieving overall objectives.Support the hospital matron to ensure that standards and protocols are followed.Arrange and submit weekly ward work schedule and plan daily duties and responsibilities for both health care workers in the whole unit.Convene weekly departmental meeting and submit minutes and attend monthly hospital meetings.Compile and submit quarterly inventory return/requisition of all drugs and supplies.Compile and submit monthly reports on all admissions, discharges, referrals and deaths.Maintain equipments in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the same.Report any significant changes in operations to the hospital matronCarry out any other additional duties as may be assigned by the matronQuality departmental planning and implementation of laid SOPs as well as organizational policies.Clinical services Program objectives on maternal mortalities and neonatal mortalities are achieved.Quality reports are produced and submitted on time.Cross-cutting issues are mainstreamed and integrated within the programme eg nutrition, community health, safe programming.Coordination with other programs and departments within the hospital is strengthened.At least 3 years experience in a busy hospital setup with reference to maternity and theatre departments.Cultural and diversity sensitivity, commitment and an understanding of the values of IRC and the principles of equal opportunities.Able to work under pressure and difficult environmental conditions.Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to evaluate the work of other nurses on the floor. Overall Job Function:

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Nurse shall support the implementation of health facility-based interventions aimed at preventing malnutrition and improving maternal and child health in Turkana West district. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the other nutrition staff, Partners (DOL, AIC & MOH) and health workers in implementing the clinical aspects of the nutrition program.
Key Responsibilities
Programme:
* Support the nutrition manager in program planning management and implementation of the clinical aspects of mother and child health component in nutrition programming.
* To support the health facility staffs in implementing an integrated management of acute malnutrition program that will encompass health outreach and public health nutrition.
* Together with the other nutrition officers and the partner staffs, work with the other departments in integration of activities to offer a whole package of services that contribute to proper mother and child care
* Support the health facility and partner staffs in Provision of routine treatment and medication to beneficiaries in the nutrition program
* Assist other nutrition officers in community mobilization, screening, active case find, defaulter tracing and referral of beneficiaries for further medical care in the stabilization centers.

* Together with the other nutrition officers and the partner staffs, work with the other departments in integration of activities to offer a whole package of services that contribute to proper nutrition status.
* Together with the other nutrition officer Ensure availability and use of all the standard anthropometric tools and equipment to the health facilities and outreach sites
* Work together with the nutrition officers and the district nutrition officer in planning for outreaches for the health facility staffs and ensure all component of KEPI and micronutrient supplementation are included in the package.
* Assist the health facility staffs at partner sites in Managing the severe acute malnourished beneficiaries with complications in the SC children and ensure they are being taken care of according to protocol

* Assist the nutrition manager in carrying out capacity assessment and gap analysis and come up with a capacity building plan that include; OJT and training of MOH health facility and partner staff in all clinical aspects of nutrition especially in the Stabilization centers.
* Supporting the nutrition teams at the health facilities and the community health volunteers at the health facility level and also at community level with particular emphasis on capacity building of staff through mentoring and training.
* Provide technical support to the partner and health facility staffs, assist in assessing of beneficiaries and carry out referrals to the SC if any need arises or for further medical care.
* Assist the nutrition manager in strengthening the capacity of local partners and health facility staffs in programmatic and technical nutrition related aspects, through identification, capacity assessments, trainings and continuous engagements.
Reporting:
* Ensure timely reporting weekly and monthly program reports and ensuring the regular flow of information and reports to the district level
Coordination:
* Ensure proper communication, coordination and harmonization of tools with the different stakeholders involved in nutrition activities.
* Carry out weekly field visits to Ensuring program quality control and implementation in all aspects
* Participate in health and nutrition key calendar events and campaigns that contribute to the maternal and child health wellness
Logistics and Finance:
* Work together with the nutrition manager in preparation of the monthly cash forecasts based on planned activities in a timely manner
* Assist the nutrition manager in preparation and carrying out of payments for the CHWs, IYCN focal points and field allowances.
* Support the nutrition officers in collaboration with the district nutrition officer in commodity request, management of stock and accountability of the stocks.
* Assist the nutrition manager in PR tracking
* Support and facilitate the movement of procured items from the office to the field Preparation of movement and logistical plan for the teams and the partner health facility staffs to the field sites
* Facilitate the procurement of medical supplies and disbursement to the health facilities
Communication and Reporting
* Maintain excellent relationships internally within IRC and with all IRC's partners, the MOH, other stakeholders and local authorities.
* Carry out any other tasks as requested by supervisor, such as trainings, program representation, resource mobilization, advocacy, strengthening of partnerships, and program-related administrative duties.
Required Qualifications:
* Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or its equivalent with a recognized qualification in Nutrition.
* Addition nutrition training in IMAM and IYCF is an added advantage.
* Knowledge of national and international minimum standards in health program service delivery, including MOH, SPHERE, WHO
* Competence in basic computer packages
Required Experience & Competencies:
* At least 2 years experience working in Arid and Semi Arid Lands of Kenya
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong background in humanitarian projects
* At least 2 years experience working in a health and nutrition program.
