Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and University of Washington (UW). It is a dynamic, comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment program in Kenya. The goal of the study is to understand the mental health care needs of HIV+ women affected by Gender based violence (GBV), served by FACES, with particular attention to the impact of emotional distress on ARV adherence and HIV outcomes. This is a study in itself, but will also serve the practical purpose of providing needs assessment, on which we plan to base the adaptation and piloting of a locally delivered mental health treatment.
Position: Transcriber / Translator (two positions) Diploma in Community Health and Development or relevant field from a recognized institution required. Bachelors’ degree qualifications preferred.Experience in research set up required.Must be fluent in understanding and transcribing Dholuo,Swahili or English languages.Must have ability to follow instructions and procedures properly.Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to work in a team is essential.Job Summary: The incumbent will be answerable to the Research Coordinator and will be responsible for transcribing recorded interview content in local language, and translating into English manuscripts during the period they are in the study. The contract period for employment will be one month, starting October and ending November 2012.

FilmAid International (FilmAid Kenya) invites qualified Kenyan applications to fill the above position on a part time basis.

FilmAid will accept applications from either translator of Kiswahili and Somali separately though individuals conversant with both languages will have an added advantage.

FilmAid International is a non-governmental organization that uses film to promote health, strengthen communities and enrich the lives of the world’s vulnerable and uprooted.

FilmAid is currently implementing programmes in Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya.

Project Background/Description:

FilmAid International in conjunction with Sundance Institute and Film FORWARD is partnering to host a Film Festival in Kakuma, Dadaab and Nairobi as part of advancing cultural dialogue. Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization that discovers and supports independent film and theatre artists from the U.S. and around the world, and introduces audiences to their new work.

The collaboration will see a series of films by Sundance Institute/Film FORWARD and FilmAid showcased during this period. The films will be show to refugee and local audiences in Kenya who are mainly Somali, Swahili and English speakers.

Responsibilities:

Translate scripts from English to Kiswahili and Somali
Work closely with the production consultant and voice actors to produce voice-overs in Swahili and or Somali
Work with a video editor and production consultant to ensure that translations are represented correctly in videos through subtitles and voice over dubbing
Translate a video facilitation manual from English into Kiswahili and Somali
Knowledge of Somali and or Swahili languagePrevious experience in translation of written material (present sample during interview)
Ready to work with minimal supervision with ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Availability at short notice

The Bible Society of Kenya (BSK) is a nonsectarian, nondenominational organization that serves all Christian Churches, Christian Church Organizations and Christian Individuals by providing them with the Word of God.

Our mandate is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ by Translating, Producing, Distributing and encouraging the use of Holy Scriptures.

To effectively serve our mandate and to ensure the consistent delivery of quality programs, we are looking for mature, dynamic and self-motivated individuals to fill the position of Revisers for Maasai Bible (3) and Translators for Teso Bible (3).

The successful candidates will be responsible for the accurate revision of the present Maasai Bible and translation of Teso Bible respectively in relation to the original Hebrew and Greek texts. The translation offices will be located within the Maa speaking region and Teso speaking region.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in linguistics or theology or its equivalent from a recognized university or theological institution.
