Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) is a humanitarian relief organization created by an Act of Parliament, Cap 256 of the Laws of Kenya on 21st December 1965.
Its vision is to be the most effective, trusted and self-sustaining humanitarian organization in Kenya. The organization’s core business areas are broadly classified into six major departments including Disaster Management, Health and Social Services, Water and Sanitation, Nutrition, Organizational Development and Emergency Operations. In 2010, KRCS was selected as the Civil Society Principal Recipient to manage resources under the Country’s Global Fund Round 10 Grant for HIV and AIDS.
The Global Fund Management Unit of the KRCS manages the Global Grant for HIV and AIDS interventions as the Civil Society Principal Recipient and implements through 52 selected sub recipients.KRCS seeks the expertise of a consultancy firm to design and develop an interactive, user friendly Information system for reporting, data management and archiving. This will enable the Kenya Red Cross Society to improve the management of its data/ information and reporting function across all program areas.

This position is contingent upon funding. Position Summary: Pact seeks a National Civil Society Advisor to work with national civil society organizations in Kenya and strengthen their organizational and technical capacities to better influence government policy, ensure accountability, and advocate for improved service delivery. This work will be part of an anticipated USAID governance program in Kenya focused on supporting the devolution process of transitioning political power and functions from the central government to the regional and local governments, including establishing and strengthening the capacity of devolved government structures, county assemblies and working with citizens and civil society to hold devolved structures accountable. The position requires building the capacity of civil society organizations and their staff, through mentoring, coaching, training and grant-making. Strong candidates will possess strong communication, interpersonal skills especially with members of civil society and local government. He/She will ensure high technical quality, meet program targets in accordance with work plans, and contribute to high-caliber progress reports.

Responsibilities:

• Identify civil society organizations active at the national level with experience in policy development and monitoring; • Develop action plans and capacity development strategies; • Coach and mentor civil society organizations to influence policy and hold government accountable; • Ensure that CSO capacity development approaches, strategies and activities are in line with national policy on devolution and Vision 2030; • Ensure a flow of information between national and county level civil society actors; • Manage and oversee implementation of civil society strengthening activities and ensure that activities match work plans, are in line with budgets, and are properly documented; • Support the establishment of robust monitoring evaluation and learning systems.

American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is an international organization recognized as the preeminent organization for continuing education in pathology and laboratory medicine.

The ASCP’s Institute for Global Outreach currently works in 13 countries in Africa to improve global health by identifying and implementing innovative methods and partnerships that improve laboratory practice.

Overall Goal

ASCP proposes to hire three subcontracted Technical Assistants (TAs) to provide support to its accreditation program in Kenya. The overall goal for these positions would be to serve as dedicated mentors in the labs to get the labs to the point where they can successfully undergo external assessments.

Reporting and Responsibility

Working with the ASCP In-Country Representative as the Team Leader, the selected TAs will work with selected SLMTA labs in a mentorship capacity and to assist broadly with the laboratory accreditation initiative in Kenya on behalf of the ASCP.

Other duties will include but are not limited to: guiding labs through the accreditation process; monitoring, assisting, and encouraging the successful completion of assigned improvement projects; and supporting the development of knowledge capacity of lab directors and quality officers of the 13 ASCP SLMTA laboratories.

The TAs will continue to collaborate with representatives from Kenya’s Ministry of Health, National HIV Reference Laboratory, NPHLS, and CDC-Kenya in planning and implementing ASCP’s cooperative agreement projects.

Other duties may include assessing the criteria for completion of improvement projects; supporting improvement projects customized to specific labs; and monitoring these labs using the WHO/AFRO checklist.

A component will include addressing gaps identified by the Mid Term Assessments through workshops or individual mentorships designed to fix deficiencies through unique implementation
projects.

The TAs will also be expected to take on other responsibilities as will be assigned on an ad hoc basis by the In-Country Representative.

Job Summary:

The OD Manager will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in supporting partner CSOs in achieving organizational development goals.

The OD Manager will report to KCSSP Chief of Party and work in a peer relationship alongside other key Managers within Pact Kenya including the Democracy and Governance Manager & Natural Resource Managers.

The KCSSP goal is “to ensure that targeted Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) more effectively demand reforms, monitor government activities and provide other critical services to their constituents”.

The program has two technical focuses; Democracy and Governance (DG) and Natural Resources Management (NRM).

Undugu Society seeks to recruit an Assistant Director - Programs.
The Assistant Director - Programs is effectively the head of program interventions.

He/She will provide technical program leadership, management and coordination of all programs implemented by the organization.

A Bachelors degree in social sciences, education or related field. A Masters degree in a development field is also a must.
Minimum 5 years experience in a similar position in the NGO sector. Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesSpearhead the program strategy development and implementation.
Deputize the Executive Director
Ensure optimal resource management within all program interventions.
Member of the Management Committee, which sets organizational strategy and policy for the organization. Must be a strong team player with good people management skills.
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate in both English and Kiswahili languages, both oral and written.
Must have excellent proposal writing, report writing and fundraising skills.
Must also be good at whole project cycle tasks, i.e. planning, implementation, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, reporting and general program management.
Ability to work and perform under pressure.
Good computer skills particularly Word, Excel and Access.
Creative thinker, self starter and a self motivated person.

Must have strong organizational skills Operationalize Undugu’s ‘niche’ areas of children and youth, education and training and community empowerment.
Lead in the development of the organization’s program portfolio in collaboration with the Executive Director, Program Managers/coordinators and program officers.
Develop and ensure the implementation of the program strategy in line with the corporate strategy.
Provide technical support, write proposals and fund raise for the program
Manage the overall program planning, monitoring and reporting.
Oversee the management of overall program budget under the direction of the Executive Director.
Advocate and represent the program at the highest level on matters of child rights development as delegated by the Executive Director.
Liaise and network with relevant Undugu partners and collaborators to improve Undugu’s visibility, coordination of activities and promotion of shared advocacy agenda.
Manage staff performance and development in the program section.
Account to the Executive Director on the delivery of strategic program objectives and regular reporting on monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Familiar with Children’s Rights, Human Rights, Youth development issues.
Experience with Child Protection issues.
Desire to work with the poor and have a passion for defending the rights of children and the disadvantaged in society.
Experience in managing multiple donor relations Accountability.
Supervision: Works independently with authority from the Executive Director, within strategy and policy guidelines.
Decision Making: Makes decisions with regards to work responsibilities and is accountable for them.
Responsibility over data or information: Has access to information within the program and is responsible for program data generation and management.
Responsibility over assets: Overall responsibility for program budget and all assets in the program.
Responsibility over staff: All staff in the program section; immediate supervision of all senior managers in the program including all Program Managers, Coordinators and officers.
