Head of Operations – Waste Collection and Processing

Summary: Our client is an innovative young company that seeks to change the waste management and recycling space in Nairobi and beyond. 

The company is currently scaling up its operations and is looking to recruit a Head of Operations in charge of waste collection and processing.

You will be in charge of management the company’s operations from waste collection to processing of waste-to-value products. 

As part of the management team, you will take up significant responsibility in a fast-growing company.

Key Responsibilities
Planning, organizing, and directing the work of the organisation to meet objectives with the most efficient use of personnel, facilities and equipment including vehiclesManaging operations from points of collection (residential and business clients across all income areas), transfer points, processing facility, manufacturing of various waste-to-value productsDesigning and implementing appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms Ensuring a high level of service in terms of timely and professional collection, high waste separation rates (80%+) and efficient processingManaging waste flows & logistics; route planning, material flows, fleet management, stock managementManaging the department staff, including responsibility for hiring, scheduling performance management and discipline.Preparing and submitting regular reports including, break downs, collections and processingDriving cost-minimization across all aspects of operations through appropriate structures and efficient planningDriving operational processes, maintaining effectiveness and efficiencies while monitoring compliance to relevant regulations University degreeA minimum of 8 years senior management experience in a mid-size to large organization with high professional and ethical standardsExperience working in a business with a large ‘in-house value chain/vertical integration’; for example in agricultureExperience in managing a large team, most of whom are semi-skilledSignificant experience in logistics, controlling and manufacturingProven team-building and leadership skills (i.e. situational leadership)Excellent organizational skillsHands-on approach: 75% of time will be spent in the fieldStrong focus on setting up and implementing various control and monitoring mechanismsSend your application including a cover letter demonstrating why you are the best suited candidate for this role; a detailed CV highlighting relevant experience and achievements, details of current and expected salary, a day time phone contact, email address, and the names of three professional referees by close of business Wednesday 14th May 2014.

Job Purpose:

Warehouse Manager will oversee the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely dispatch of goods. 

He/She will ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met and take responsibility for the security of the building and stock.

In September 2009, the German International Cooperation (GIZ) Health Sector Programme and Nairobi Women’s Hospital signed a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement on Hospital Waste Management.

The objective of the PPP is to enhance private health care providers’ facility based waste management practices and promote sustainable biomedical waste disposal options.

GIZ Health Sector Programme hereby seeks to recruit a professional for the following position:

Programme Officer – Healthcare Waste Management

The programme officer will be based at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, and will support with the assessment, situation analysis, strategy development, capacity building and implementation of the PPP project in accordance with the workplan.

Qualifications and Experience
