Flamingo is part of Finlays, one of the largest agricultural organizations in East Africa and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swire Group. An exciting, challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen in our Naivasha region for a Programmer/Database Administrator.

The Job

This position has the following key responsibilities:

* Maintaining databases including tuning database servers, performance monitoring while ensuring security, accurate and regular updates;
* Participation in the design and development of databases to meet existing and new user needs taking into account technological innovations;
* Facilitating the increasing demand for access to data – increasingly via the intranet and/or website;
* Devising, developing, implementing and on a regular basis testing disaster recovery and archiving procedures for databases;
* Supporting users of acquired or in-house developed applications and providing the required solution and resolving user needs and problems;
* Working closely with ICT project managers and other database programmers;
* Commissioning, installing and testing new applications;
* Writing and maintaining programming code and associated documentation;
* Analyzing client/server and micro-computer based software solutions compatibility with company requirements;
* Maintaining confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed;
* Documenting programming problems and resolutions for future reference.

The Person

We require a candidate with the following qualifications:

* Fully familiar with Microsoft technologies with special emphasis on Visual BASIC, .Net framework, ASP.net as front-end development tools and MS Access, MS SQL server 2000/2005/2008 as back-end databases and IIS;
* Proficiency in enterprise reporting tools e.g. Crystal Report;
* Basic knowledge of Active Directory, Windows 2003/2008 server and Windows XP & 7 desktop operating system, Exchange 2003 mail server, and other applications relating to networking;
* MIS reporting skills;
* Competency in Scala financial accounting package will be an added advantage
* An MCSD will be given preference
* Minimum base qualification required is Bachelors in IT/IS/Computer Science/Business Studies;
* A Minimum of at least three years similar experience with a reputable company.

Finlays, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swire Group, maintains strategic focus to develop a sustainable business which in turn drives integration, development and growth possibilities within Kenya and internationally.

Consequently, a position of General Manager – Vegetable Operations based in Nairobi has arisen and we are looking for a dynamic person, a focused self starter who is able to underpin strategic business plans with operational best practice in order to create long term sustainable results.

Background

The position is based at the airport in Nairobi, an operation which employs a core staff of 1100 people and exports around 7000 tonnes of vegetable product annually.

Processed vegetables are packed in more than 150 different formats and are out loaded daily through a dedicated air-bridge.

This is an exciting position and recognizes the need for a senior and experienced professional to work with and to lead the existing team in order that we further develop an integrated and sustainable strategy for our vegetable business.

The Job

Reporting to the Director for Vegetables & Freight, the person will work as an integral part of the team in order to strategically manage our vegetable processing and our outgrower farming operations such that we profitably maintain stakeholder satisfaction in a sustainable manner.

The key result areas are:

planning, developing and implementing a lean strategy aligned to the company’s business plan which delivers best practice within the processing operation and therefore long term sustainable competitive advantage, growth and profitability;leading, mentoring, managing and developing individuals and teams through effective communication; andcontributing to the management of the company and promoting a culture which enables people to think, be stimulated and enjoy what they do as a valued member of the Finlays / Homegrown business.The person

The ideal candidate must possess the qualifications / competencies outlined below:

Ten years demonstrable senior operational & managerial experience, devising and implementing business relevant strategy, preferably within a large company.
Depth of skill and experience should ensure that sound people, line management and functional competence can be taken for granted;Self driven, reliant and motivated, being energetic and positive in outlook with hands on approach to see things through to completion;Highly numerate and computer literate;Experience in handling and planning across a multi-site operation with good project management and preferably lean manufacturing knowledge;Able to structure a plan, marshal resources, work as a team and deliver on commitments;Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills: persuasive and with the gravitas to gain senior management confidence; andShould be a graduate with experience of agricultural, horticultural (or related) sector(s) being an advantage.Application Procedure

* ensuring that the budgets and other Key Performance indicators are monitored and adhered to;
* ensuring that the records on key Packhouse operations are properly maintained.

Required qualifications

* At least a Diploma in Agriculture / Horticulture / Post harvest;
* A minimum of five years experience in pack house operations;
* Exposure to quality assurance management, operations management and supervision.

3. Mechanic

Based in our Workshop in Naivasha Region, the key responsibilities of this position include:

* conducting routine operational and preventive maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment;
* rectifying all mechanical faults as per job card and service check sheet;
* performance of other related duties.

Required qualifications

* A holder of Trade Test Grade 1 and above;
* A minimum of three years experience in the same capacity in a busy Workshop;
* Experience with generators and chemical spray equipment will be an added advantage;

The company is one of the largest Flower growers in the world, and as our business is undergoing continual growth and change we continue to look to support and strengthen our team in Kenya.

As a part of these planned changes we are looking for a dynamic and focused self starter to run our flower processing operations in our Naivasha Region.

The Job

The key purpose of the job will be the overall management of the flower processing operations, people and related information in Naivasha, leading and developing a team of motivated professionals and providing guidance and support in order to deliver efficient and effective operations.

This will entail the working with other disciplines like technical and also the effective
management of teams within all pack houses, with regards to costs, efficiencies, quality, processing techniques and cold chain to ensure all process flows, specifications and chill chain are adhered to in order to deliver quality product through the supply chain.

As part of their key responsibilities the successful candidate will:

work with the Flowers General Manager, Technical Manager and local processing teams to develop and deliver an operations plan which meets Group and customer expectations in the delivery of safe, legal, consistent, quality products within all specifications.plan and maintain efficient, and relevant operational, reporting, communication and planning systems in order to measure all necessary aspects of processing efficiencies, cold chain and productivity in line with agreed budgets and KPI’s.plan and develop team within the processing operation that delivers the key objectives with and that there are sound succession and development plans in place to motivate and deliver world class performance.liaise with other departmental managers so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs of their own operations and also to ensure they are fully informed of own team’s objectives, purposes and achievements.ensure activities meet and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies, general duty of care and the groups longer term sustainability objectives.The Person

Electrician

Based in our Mt Kenya Region the key responsibilities of this position include:

Installation and wiring works including for water pumps and all types of motors;Service repair and maintenance of all electrical equipment including motors, control panels, welding machines, laundry machines, sulphur burners, fence energizers and all workshop electrical appliances;Installation and erection of post including maintenance of connection of overhead power lines;Checking the power factor, bus bar, MCCB and KPLC meters;Checking and maintenance of all lights, fittings and diffusers; andInspection and maintenance of domestic power points, switchgear, lights and appliances.Trade Test Grade 3;At least five years experience in similar role with proven ability to work with minimum supervision;Good interpersonal, analytical and communication skills; andGood understanding of health and safety issues.
