Murang’a University College (MRUC) was established under Universities Act 2012 Section 74 as the successor of Murang’a College of Technology.

The University College is located in Murang’a town, 85 km North East of Nairobi. The University College Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons to provide leadership to the institution in the position of Deputy Principal (Academic, Research, Innovation and Extension).

The Deputy Principal shall report to the Principal and shall be the Head of Academic, Research, Innovation and Extension and will ensure these functions evolve into pillars of excellence within the University College.
 

Be a Professor or Associate Professor of a university recognized by Commission for University Education (CUE);Have served in senior university administration position; at least six (6) years as admitting Dean/Director and above. Previous service as chairman of academic department will be an added advantage.Be an outstanding and internationally recognized scholar as evidenced through publications in peer-referred journals (at least eight in the last five years) and/or university level books/books chapters;Demonstrate ability to attract project grants/awards;Have supervised Post graduate students at Masters and Ph.D levels;Demonstrate the ability to develop Curricula, programmes and projects;Demonstrate competence in administrative and financial leadership in an academic and research environment;Have a good understanding of government financial and fiscal policies, strategic planning and vision 2030 flagship projects, Public Procurement and Disposal Law;Have an excellent understanding of the current trends in university education, training and research nationally and globally;Demonstrate an outstanding ability to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills;Be computer literate;Comply with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.Deputy Principal in consultation with Principal shall:Coordinate the development of academic policies of the university college;Direct and organize academic policies and programmes of the university college;Coordinate and manage students affairs;Coordinate and manage examinations and the preparation of academic transcripts, certificates, diplomas and degrees;Develop research agenda with clear guidelines on research alliances and partnerships nationally and internationally;Develop and implement strategies to facilitate growth in revenue to support research and innovation;Provide strategic direction, leadership and management of the centres and departments that comprise the research and innovation portfolio;Oversee the protection and commercialization of the innovations;Establish linkages with industry and business through local, national and international networks to leverage research outcomes and opportunities;Perform such other functions and responsibilities assigned by the Principal and University Council as may be necessary and in the interests of the University College as per its rules and regulations;The position is tenable as a five (5) year contract renewable once subject to satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package which includes basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover as per the University College’s medical scheme, leave allowance, official transport and gratuity at the end of the contract period as per University College provisions. The salary entry point will depend on qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The Kenya YMCA National Training Institute (KYMCA NTI) was established in 1966 as YMCA Crafts Training Centre with the aim of providing vocational training to young school leavers. In 2005, it was rebranded to National Training Institute and its programmes reviewed so as to meet the emerging students, industry and business needs.

The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) was established in pursuant to the provisions of the Biosafety Act No. 2 of 2009 and came into operation on 12th February 2009.

The overall mandate of the NBA is to exercise the general supervision and control over the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) with a view to ensuring safety of human and animal health as well as the provision of an adequate level of protection of the environment.

NBA is the competent authority of the Government of the Republic of Kenya mandated to regulate all activities involving GMOs in food, feed, research, industry, trade and environmental release.

NBA seeks to recruit dynamic, innovative and experienced Kenyan citizens to fill the following position:-

Principal Biosafety Officer (Monitoring and Evaluation)Ref: NBA/PBSO/02/2014

The holder of this position will report to the Director, Technical Services.

Duties and Responsibilities
Implementation of the NBA’s policy regarding the establishment and operations of Working Groups and expert and independent reviews in technical review of GMO dossiers.Fast tracks the applications review ensuring adherence to the stipulated approval timelinesTo develop, maintain, and continually update BCH information on GMO applications and approved GMO projects for information exchange on National and International BCH.To consolidate risk assessment reports on applicationsPreparation of draft scientific documents, decision documents and approval documents.Undertakes preparation of scientific outputs of NBA in the area of GMO use and applications.Liaison with the regulatory agencies on issues related to GMO reviewsDevelopment of proposals for funding and supervise Biosafety projectsRepresents NBA in the most positive manner with prospective, employees, clients, suppliers and the community we serve interacts effectively with a diverse group of staff, students and other customers of our services, learns and uses operating practices of NBA.A Master of Science degree in Biotechnology, related Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related Biological Sciences from a recognized institution and at least 3 years post graduate relevant experience;Attainment of higher professional post – graduate qualification in Biosafety;The areas of training and Biosafety must be relevant to NBA’s Biosafety mandate;How to Apply

Duties and Responsibilities
