Dorcas Livelihoods Officer Job in Moyale Kenya

Dorcas is a Christian relief and development organisation active in Eastern Europe and Africa. In these regions Dorcas works together with local partner organisations. Dorcas is committed to fulfil the command Jesus Christ gave to His followers to take care of the poor and oppressed (Mt.25.31-46), irrespective of their race, religion, gender or political conviction, by encouraging self-reliance through development, providing social care and assisting in emergency situations. Dorcas will expand its Agriculture, Food Security, Livelihoods and Disaster Management program (AFLM) to Moyale region in Kenya and Ethiopia. For the Kenyan side of this cross border AFLM program aimed at reducing the underlying causes of conflict in the Horn of Africa, Dorcas is looking for an experienced Livelihoods Officer with a possible start Date of June 2014 to be stationed in Moyale.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Conduct initial sector-specific assessments and make technical recommendations for appropriate activities, both for initial disaster response phase, early recovery and for longer-term disaster risk reduction or rebuilding of livelihoods. Be able to conduct rapid assessments of the food and livelihoods situation and be able to assess food and livelihood needs.As appropriate, apply new & innovative developments in the agriculture and food security sector to target region programming. Design appropriate responses, develop detailed work plan/monitoring tool, lead the implementation of the project and make sure it’s done as per the proposal Ensuring timely implementation of livelihood activities and regular monitoring and registration of beneficiary households for livelihood activitiesConducting regular field visits to verify quality /progress of Livelihood Program interventions provide technical guidance and adviceActively represent Dorcas in food security, agriculture, and livelihood sector/cluster discussions and activities.BS in Agriculture or other relevant field.3 years of field experience in food security, agriculture, and livelihoods, including experience in emergency response and recovery following disaster. Good understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and participatory approachesAn up-to date understanding of food security, risk reduction, emergency response, early recovery, sustainable development and livelihoods concepts. Knowledge in designing and implementing appropriate and effective safety nets, including grants provision and management.Information and application
