Context and Purpose: Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose vision is to enable the sustainable transformation of markets for the benefit of the poor. This involves working in partnership to facilitate improved functioning of markets, and to build capacity to make markets work better.
There is widespread agreement that the best way to improve the economic conditions of the poor is through improving the functioning of markets. One method which has found success is the “Making Markets Work for the Poor” (M4P) approach developed by a group of donors, practitioners and academicians. KMT uses the M4P methodology to facilitate “better markets, better lives”.Kenya Market Assistance Programme (MAP) is funded by Department for International Development (DFID), Gatsby charitable foundation and The Embassy of the Netherlands and implemented by Adam Smith International and Kenya Markets Trust.
The Knowledge and Results Manager, being a part of Knowledge and Results Team (KRT), is to manage the effective application of MAP’s results measurement framework across all interventions within the MAP portfolio and to enable effective reporting of programme results and performance to the board, donors and key stakeholders.
Main objectives
To manage reporting against the programme logical framework To advise sector managers in application of the Results Measurement Framework including how to construct results chains, develop measurement plans, establish attribution strategies, set baselines and undertake monitoring activities against measurement plans.To collect and analyse MAP’s results measurement data and assist the MAP senior management team in reporting on programme performance.To participate in MAP’s portfolio review. To ensure MAP’s management and measurement systems are compliant with the DCED Results Measurement Standard.Reporting to the Knowledge and Results Senior Manager, you will be expected to:Update the log frame and reporting on programme performance against the log frame targets in line with the reporting calendar. Receive quarterly reports form the sectors team, and carry out the necessary, review, refinement and finalisation, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Train and mentor MAP programme staff (Sector teams) and sub-contractors and support the development of Intervention Plans (Results Chain, Measurement Plan etc.)Regularly review the quality of results chains and work with sector teams and sub-contractors to make improvements. Provide leadership and technical support to sector managers and sub-contractors in undertaking monitoring activities. Undertake annual impact assessment of MAP sectors and ensure proper Baseline and Impact Assessment plans are conducted and executed on time either by internal or external teams.Receive tracker data from sector teams and prepare analysis pieces as needed. Support the preparation of case studies and research pieces as and when requested by Senior Manager.Organise, facilitate and contribute to the quarterly portfolio review meetings and share insights on sector performance. Coach MAP/KMT staff and sub-contractors in the application of the DCED Results Measurement Standard.Support the DCED pre-audit review and full audit on MAP’s Result Measurement System.Regularly update MAP’s results measurement tools and framework in line with best practice.A degree level in a relevant discipline such as Business Management, Economics, Statistics, Agribusiness, Development Studies or Marketing.5-7 years of experience working in M&E/Results Measurement or Research within development organizations or private sector or similar scope. Demonstrated experience of managing both Qualitative and Quantitative research and handling large data set.Strong analytical skills on economic modelling such as cost-benefit analysis, financial modelling etc.Knowledge of developing results chains, log frame and DCED standard.Knowledge of M4P approach/Value chain development will be added advantage.Experience of sector stakeholder mapping and engagement; developing partnerships and managing relationships with donors, NGOs, private sector and government agencies.In-depth knowledge on Kenyan economy, agriculture and how business works in rural marketsExcellent report writing and verbal communication.Good negotiation and influencing skills.Very good with MS Excel and SPSS.How to Apply: Send your application including a cover letter demonstrating why you are the best suited candidate for this role; a detailed CV highlighting relevant experience and achievements, details of current and expected salary, a day time phone contact, email address, the names of three professional referees and a recent photo to:Adept Systems
