Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit research organization that creates and evaluates approaches to solving development problems. IPA disseminates the results of its evaluations to policy makers, practitioners, investors and donors around the world.
About the project: Mitigation Aflatoxin consumption for Improving Child growth project is a study designed to look at the correlation between the consumption of aflatoxin contaminated grain and flour and child growth between the ages of 0 – 2 years. Eligible households have been enrolled into the program in numerous waves to get the desired study sample, thus the need for this fifth wave of listing and data collection.
IPA seeks 15 to 20 field officers for immediate hire on a 4 – 6 weeks contract, who will assist with a variety of data collection activities.Arrive at work on timeAdminister household surveysComplete scheduled activities each day in a timely mannerDemonstrate integrity and understanding during interaction with community members and partner organization staffOn non-field days, perform office duties with care (for instance translation work, which will be taught as needed)Assist in daily survey organization and storageEnsure data integrity is maintained at all times and minimize errors in data collectionProvide the PM/APMs with daily feedback regarding surveying activitiesExcellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.Experience with data collection through household surveys, academic tests, exit interviews, focus groups or observationsAbility to recognize when questions are difficult or unclear to subjectsExcellent note taking ability during interviewsComfortable with interviewing individuals within their homesBasic computer knowledge and skills (mandatory)Ability to comfortably work with groups and within groupsBachelors’ degree or college diploma in social sciences, health and /or business administrationPast experience in data collection – show proof of this in applicationExperience in data collection using BlaiseIf worked with the project in the past added advantage but no guarantee of being selected - please indicate clearly on applicationFamiliarity and understanding of local language (Kimeru)Previous experience working with poor communities and womenPlease send a cover letter and detailed CV including daytime phone number, an email address, and 3 professional references.
