Research Executive: (3 Months)

About the Job: We are looking for suitable candidate to fill the following position, based in Nairobi Kenya. The position reports to the director.



Key responsibilities:




  • Identifying and writing winning proposals in East Africa and regionally.

  • Developing specific research mythologies, reporting and deliverables to each study.

  • Developing and design of data collection tools in various platforms i.e. ODK, Kobo Enketo, Survey to go, Survey monkey, CSPro e.t.c

  • Recruiting, training of data collection teams, budgeting and managing field works to ensure quality work.

  • Support project planning and management of various new and ongoing projects.

  • Data analysis, report writing, editing and preparation presentation each study conducted.

  • Provide support to company business development goals.

  • Manage each client needs and expectation for the project assigned.



Qualifications



· Bachelors/ Masters in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Rural development..



· At least 3 – 5 years of experience involved in measurement, evaluation and learning including market research.



· Excellent skills in writing winning proposals in WASH, financial, child protection and Agricultural fields.



· Experience designing, conducting and managing impact evaluations.



· Experience in designing, conducting, and managing baseline, mid-line, and end line surveys including value chain analysis.



· Evidence of advanced evaluation design and advanced statistical analysis including multi-level modeling, propensity score matching, conducting power analysis for clustered evaluations and, fluency with a statistical software package desired.



· Strong data analysis (use of Stata, SPSS, Matlab), English report writing, and presentation skills.



· Able to effectively manage activities in a multi-cultural environment.



· At least five (2-3) years of supervisory experience



· Fluency in English required and fluency in Swahili is preferred.



· Experience working with INGO’s and government is preferred.



· Willingness to work within and outside Kenya;



· Experience working in East Africa is desired.

1.       Research, analyse and keep abreast of all financial related products and solutions on offer to Agricultural clients in the Kenyan, African and global markets

2.       Keep abreast of National Government policies, strategies and initiatives in areas of responsibility to ensure sustainability and identify growth opportunities and solutions for the Agri sector


3.       Research, Analyse and report to management on the national and regional economic outlook and climatic conditions relating to Agriculture in the area of responsibility. Provide reports based on research done and do presentations.


4.       Provide technical, economic and financial information e.g. climate trends, global trade forecasts and trade prices to Relationship Managers, Credit and all other Key Stakeholders


5.       Conduct comprehensive competitor analysis in area of responsibility, document findings and present findings in a research report. Ensure that all research reports are stored appropriately.


6.       Assist Relationship Managers with sector specific industry knowledge and expertise in preparation for or during client engagement.


7.       Share and document best practices, trends and key experiences with peer group, Management and Agri function.


8.       Remain up to date on National Government policies on Agriculture including, inter alia;  subsidies, marketing and related processes; by attending networking events, forums, seminars and reading public press releases.


9.       Keep up to date with and provide Agriculture related information with regards to competitor activity and changes in the Agricultural industry by reading industry magazines, national press articles and industry websites and by attending industry forums and networking functions.


10.    Hold annual meetings to update and validate Agri Valuation Guidelines, to be approved by Regional Agri Manager, before distribution to relevant stakeholders.


11.    Assist Training and Development in compiling Agri training material for training of all staff with Agri clients or involved in Agri finance.


12.    Assist Training and Development with the training of all staff involved in Agri finance.


13.    Proactively interact with stakeholders e.g. product/ solutions experts, agricultural economists, primary and secondary Agri clients and co-operatives to obtain ideas and information for product development.


14.    Assist to complete business cases for submission to product and segment.


 


Who We Are:


GROOTS SACCO is a startup SACCO established in July 2017 for members of GROOTS Kenya. GROOTS Kenya is a national movement of grassroots women across Kenya. Our mission is to facilitate effective engagement of grassroots women in development spaces.


Position Description:


To lead in the implementation of the Markets & Trade Program targeting small-scale women farmers largely in the Horticulture value chain in Nyandarua (Potato), Nakuru (Horticulture & Dairy), Kitui (Poultry & Horticulture) and Muranga (Banana) Counties.


Responsibilities:



  • Lead the mapping and organizing of small-scale farmers into groups

  • Enhance farmers capacities and organization to produce for the market

  • Support in conducting of baselines surveys and rapid value chain analysis

  • Develop & lead the implementation of such innovations that accelerate rural women small-scale farmers’ engagement higher up the value chain

  • Support farmer groups to map strategic agri-markets and build sustainable market linkages

  • Develop and mainstream into the program innovations to address traditional challenges that hinder women engagement in agribusiness e.g- care work burden, gender-based violence, lack of land control, lack of capital e.t.c

  • Support the women farmers to map stakeholders ‘conduct community-led advocacy to compliment the program investments

  • Sustain strategic partnerships with policymakers and stakeholders mapped under the program

  • Support mapped farmers to mobilize own financial resources, save and borrow to support their value chain activities

  • Build a participatory monitoring system for the targeted individual farmers and farmer groups.

  • Build a men for women movement to enhance the quality of program outcomes at individual and group level

  • Any other role assigned by the Executive Director


Qualifications:



  • Bachelors’ degree in agribusiness or agricultural related studies

  • A deep understanding of the horticulture value chain and in particular for crops such as potatoes, banana, and kales

  • At least over 3 years of working experience in the sector

  • Experience working with small-scale farmers/entrepreneurs
