While accounting jobs in Kenya are some of the most sought after careers, securing an employment opportunity may not be that easy.
If you are a graduate and currently job hunting for an accounting position, these tips will certainly guide you.
1. Tailor your CV to the accountant job description
Florence Mukunya, a Career Advisor at Corporate Staffing Services When writing a CV for an Accounting position, it should be well tailored to fit the position you are applying for.
“Highlight your key achievements and prove to the potential employer what you will offer if given a chance to work for them,” she advices.
“As a graduate who does not have much work experience, support your claims with your internship roles or during volunteering,” she adds.
2. Actively use social media
Social media can help those who are on the job hunt in many ways. Professional social networking sites like LinkedIn make it easy for individuals to show off their skills and resumes to various employers.
Monicah Kogi, the Head of Talent Acquisition and Related Services advices graduates to join groups in LinkedIn that are related to their careers.
“A good and well crafted summary on your LinkedIn profile will give you opportunity to shine,” she says.
“This is your space to state your accounting profession and fully indentify yourself in the job market today,” she adds.
3. Join an Accounting professional body (ICPAK)
If you are a professional in the accounting industry, The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is the best body to join.
Joining this professional body will not only be a big boost to your career but will ensure that you are recognized as a professional in your field.
Those who are looking for accounting jobs can make valuable connections that can help them in their careers and learn about accounting job opportunities.
4. Network as much as possible
“As a graduate, talk your lecturers or supervisors and know which opportunities available are best suited for you,” Ms Kogi advocates.
“As a graduate who is actively job searching, you need to be out there and attend career talks that are in line with your profession,” she concludes.
