IT Security Officer
Job Purpose
Reporting to Information Security Manager, IT Services Division, the Information Security Officer (ISO) is responsible for ensuring the safeguarding information system assets by identifying and solving potential and actual security problems.
Security Officer Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Protect systems by defining access privileges, control structure, and resources.
Recognize problems by identifying abnormalities; reporting violations.
Implement security improvements by assessing current situation; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements.
Determine security violations and inefficiencies by conducting periodic audits.
Upgrade systems by implementing and maintaining security controls.
Keep users informed by preparing performance reports; communicating system status.
Maintain quality service by enforcing the ICT policy
Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
Analyze information security systems and applications and recommends and develops security measures to protect information against unauthorized modification or loss.
Evaluate and develop approach to security solutions such as security of the school¿s Intranet and Internet sites.
Assess potential items of risk and opportunities of vulnerability in the network
Support day-to-day administration and monitoring of various security related services such as the web security systems.
Install, configure, monitor and respond to security system
Administer the school¿s anti-virus and patch management system.
IT Job Requirements
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Bachelor degree with specialization in Information Systems, Information
Technology, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Systems Control or related discipline
At least 3 years¿ experience in IT/Security assignments in a large public/private sector institution
Professional certifications such as Certified Information Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM)
Technical knowledge in UNIX, Windows, Oracle, and SQL Server is preferred.
Solid knowledge of information security principles and practices.
Working experience with intrusion detection systems
Experience in centralized patch management systems.
Ability to work in large multi-disciplinary teams.
Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities;
Proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure on-call environment with changing priorities.
A team player, possessing excellent communication, presentation, analytical, planning, organizational and interpersonal skills
Should be open-minded and a change champion
Ability to think strategically with creative problem solving skills
Mature person with proven integrity, initiative & drive
