Finlays Counselor & Welfare Assistants Jobs in Kericho Kenya

Finlays is Kenya’s largest agricultural export group employing over 21,000 people and annually exporting over 300 million stems of flowers, 7 million kilos of vegetables, 26 million kilos of black tea and 3 million kilos of tea extract. 


The organisation is geographically located in Nairobi, Naivasha, Kericho, Mt. Kenya and Mombasa and works with 1,200 vegetable out growers and over 10,000 tea out growers.



We invite applications for the post of a Counselor and Welfare Assistants which have arisen in our Kericho Operations. 



These are junior management positions.




Counselor
 



Reporting to the Welfare Manager ,the job holder will offer counselling to company employees and their dependants within the company’s Estate, Factories and Departments.
 



Key Responsibilities
 



The job holder will:


  • Offer counselling services to employees and their dependants as required.

  • Assisting the Welfare team in creating awareness and coming up with strategies of managing substance and drug abuse within the company’s villages and schools.

  • The job holder is expected to work closely with medical team as situation demands.

  • In liaison with the Welfare Manager and Unit Managers, support Gender initiatives through training gender and village committees.

  • As a champion, support peer counsellors through training and empowerment programmes

  • Offer guidance and support to employees living with disabilities in the company

  • Compile monthly reports for submission to the Welfare Manager.


Minimum Requirements


  • Degree in counselling or psychology

  • 5 years experience working in a busy counselling environment in a similar role

  • The job holder is required to have comprehensive knowledge of the Children Act, Children’s rights, People with disabilities, substance abuse, Sexual Offences Act and other Kenyan laws with respect to child/family welfare and child protection.

  • Must be computer literate

  • Excellent communication skills ( oral and written)

  • Good organising and planning skills with good interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision

  • Must be a team player.


Welfare Assistants
 



Reporting administratively to departmental Manager and functionally to Welfare Manager, the job holders will implement welfare programmes within the company’s Estate, Factories, or Department i.e. Child protection policies and procedures, social concerns within our villages etc.




Key Responsibilities
 



The job holders will:


  • Coordinate a wide variety of identified and approved initiatives and projects designed to improve child and employees welfare within the department, schools and villages.

  • Hands on involvement to test out child welfare reforms, and implementation of child protection procedures.

  • Conduct child welfare and child protection investigations; analyze root causes of child welfare issues within the department.

  • Follow up all child protection cases with children’s department, police and attend court as required.

  • Identify and recommend improvement initiatives and opportunities to better safeguard children living within company.

  • Set up workshops for all children living within the company premises on child protection and how to keep themselves safe from all forms of abuse.

  • Set up workshops for employees & parents living and working within the company on child protection, parenting skills, parent child relationships.

  • Maintain a child welfare database and red flag welfare concerns.

  • Compile monthly reports.

  • With other stakeholders, implement company’s harassment, sexual offences and child abuse policy and other related social policies. This includes reporting, investigation, etc.

  • In liaison with Counselor ensure all children and families requiring counseling services are attended to.


Minimum Requirements


  • Diploma or equivalent in Social work from a recognized Institution.

  • Five years experience working with children. Previous experience in a children’s department is desirable.

  • Comprehensive knowledge on the childrens act, childrens rights, sexual offences act.

  • Must have a child centred approach with a clear understanding on children rights and relevant legislation.

  • Must be computer literate

  • Excellent communication skills ( oral and written)

  • Good organising and planning skills with good interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision

  • Must be a team player.
