Call for Consultancy Services - Development of Management Information System
Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) is a humanitarian relief organization created by an Act of Parliament, Cap 256 of the Laws of Kenya on 21st December 1965.
Its vision is to be the most effective, trusted and self-sustaining humanitarian organization in Kenya. The organization’s core business areas are broadly classified into six major departments including Disaster Management, Health and Social Services, Water and Sanitation, Nutrition, Organizational Development and Emergency Operations. In 2010, KRCS was selected as the Civil Society Principal Recipient to manage resources under the Country’s Global Fund Round 10 Grant for HIV and AIDS.
The Global Fund Management Unit of the KRCS manages the Global Grant for HIV and AIDS interventions as the Civil Society Principal Recipient and implements through 52 selected sub recipients.KRCS seeks the expertise of a consultancy firm to design and develop an interactive, user friendly Information system for reporting, data management and archiving. This will enable the Kenya Red Cross Society to improve the management of its data/ information and reporting function across all program areas.

Expertise and minimum team of consultants
For carrying out this consultancy, a firm, with expertise in the implementation of Information Systems for community based programmes during the last 5 years is required. The minimum team of consultants needed comprises: MIS Engineer, Database Designer, System Architect and MIS programmer

Economic Security Field Officers The Economic Security Unit carries out various livelihood projects in Somalia which include food distributions, agriculture inputs provision, cash for work, livestock interventions and other income generating activities in order to help the vulnerable families and communities.
In the frame of its activities, the Somali Delegation in Nairobi is seeking 5 (five) skilled and highly motivated Somali national or origin to fill the Economic Security Field Officer position(s), in the five bases: Garowe; Galkayo; Mogadishu; Gedo-Bay Region and Lower Juba

Position Title: Public Relations & Communications Officer
Reporting to: Public Relations & Communications Manager
Responsible to the Public Relations and Communications Manager for the effective design, development, implementation and evaluation of Public Relations & Communications strategies aimed at promoting and enhancing the Society’s image in order to create goodwill and build credibility. Other responsibilities include monitoring the implementation of humanitarian services to identify, capture and document, innovative approaches and best practices for purposes of dissemination and sharing experiences, to promote repeat applications or for scaling-up in different community settings.
 Plan and develop information and publicity materials and implement activities designed to improve understanding and acceptance of the Society’s policies, objectives, strategies and humanitarian services.Gather, edit and package communication materials and other publications including publicity materials, posters, fact-sheets, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, internet web pages and other publications for employees, communities, stakeholders and the general public.Organise and implement press conferences, photo sessions and media events to promote issues of concern designed to improve the understanding and acceptance of the Society’s mandate, policies, objectives, strategies and services.Coordinate public appearances, presentations, lectures, workshops, conferences, contests, exhibitions or special events for promoting community development awareness and enhancement of the image and reputation of KRCS.Coordinate effective utilisation and maintenance of multi-media equipment, scripting and directing video production.Support the effective implementation of the Society’s Public Relations and Communications Policy.Ensure proper filing of documents and materials.Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism or equivalent qualifications plus membership to a professional Public Relations and Communication body.Over five (5) years demonstrated experience in developing and implementing Corporate Communications programmes in line with strategic objectives.Proven skills in Desktop Publishing with a bias in InDesign.Position Title: Multi Media Assistant
Reporting to: Public Relations & Communications Manager
Responsible to the PR/Communications Manager for effective planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating effective multi-media productions (film, video and still photography) to support the Society’s Public Relations and Communications Strategy. Other responsibilities include the development of a well-stocked and continually updated Multi-Media resource centre and information services, development of an effective cataloguing, indexing and classification system aimed at supporting the execution of research and programme activities, as well as proper maintenance of Multi-Media resources.
 Select, assemble, set up and operate audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment for production.Coordinate Multi-Media production with directors and senior members of camera crews to discuss assignments and determine filming sequences, camera movements, and picture composition.Analyze work orders and specifications to determine locations of subject material, work procedures, sequences of operations, and machine setups. Plan and develop pre-production ideas into outlines, scripts, story boards, and graphics, using own ideas or specifications of assignmentsMaintain quality control on all raw video source clips, audio clips, multimedia files, photos and art files.Record and edit audio material such as movie soundtracks, using audio recording and editing equipment.Review raw footage after each production for potential problems and revisions in order to produce rough and finished graphics and graphic designs.Rough cut and assemble raw footage to conform to the script, storyboard and/or production specifications.Maintain the overall operating condition of editing suite as well as computer equipment and software needed to run the equipment.Troubleshoot hardware/software problems and perform minor repairs and routine maintenance of audio and video equipment to ensure proper working conditionMaintains multi-media resource centre and archives by acquiring, cataloguing, and maintain collections of multimedia material such as films, video- and audio-tapes, photographs, and software programmes.Maintain inventories of multi-media equipment including audio and video tapes and related supplies.Provide technical leadership in the area of multi-media productions.Work closely with suppliers and other video and film production houses.Diploma in Video and Film Production or equivalent qualifications, plus membership to professional Public Relations and communication bodies.Over five (5) years demonstrated experience in producing and editing high quality Multi-Media productions, documentaries and media clips.Key Competencies for both positionsAbility to compose and produce a variety of communications materials and website updates for release to media and other stakeholders.Ability to use computer software packages and internet formatting languages.Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with the media, Government officials, employees, donors, stakeholders and the general publicWorking knowledge of mass media operation and its proper utilisation for dissemination of information.Ability to communicate and make presentations to special interest groups, donors, development partners, stakeholders and the general public.Operating knowledge of information and communication equipment such as all types of cameras, sound systems, multi-media projectors etc.Ability to conduct media research and to provide practical training in communication strategies, methods and techniques to staff and other stakeholders.Hands on skills in multi-media production equipment and its maintenance.Letter of application, curriculum vitae, copies of relevant certificates, address and contacts of two referees.

The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC’s delegations throughout Africa.

The Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the position mentioned below, which will be based in Nairobi but with frequent travelling to Somalia.

Information Technology (REF No.001)

The Responsibilities:

He/she will be based in Kenya and will travel from time to time to Somalia for providing IT/Technical support to the office in Somalia;Provide support by assisting computer users on a day today basis;Ensure proper functioning of computers, printers and the network environment;Assist in the introduction of computer technologies and ensure error free standard software and hardware installation and configuration on workstations according to ICRC policy;Install and maintain the telephone network system;Install and maintain connectivity devices on ICRC LAN’s;Train, support and advise computer, radio and telephone users in the region;Administer and maintain IT inventory;Plan, install, maintain and repair all the radio communication systems (i.e. Mobile & fixed radio installations, repeaters, operational radio room).A Kenyan resident and holding a valid National passport;Degree or Diploma in Information Technology;Professional certification in a Network Operating System or Software Development;Good knowledge of computer culture, utilities, printers and peripherals;Experience in HF & VHF radio installations, VSAT and Satellite technologies;At least three years experience in Network Administration;Good knowledge of English and Somali language;Flexibility and willingness to travel in Somalia and to spend short-medium periods in the field.The Profile:

The successful candidates should have a sense of analysis and initiative, the ability to work independently and in a team. The above position demand flexibility and the ability to work under pressure in difficult context.
