Vacancy: Knowledge and Results Manager

Context and Purpose: Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose vision is to enable the sustainable transformation of markets for the benefit of the poor. This involves working in partnership to facilitate improved functioning of markets, and to build capacity to make markets work better.  

There is widespread agreement that the best way to improve the economic conditions of the poor is through improving the functioning of markets.  One method which has found success is the “Making Markets Work for the Poor” (M4P) approach developed by a group of donors, practitioners and academicians. KMT uses the M4P methodology to facilitate “better markets, better lives”.
Kenya Market Assistance Programme (MAP) is funded by Department for International Development (DFID), Gatsby charitable foundation and The Embassy of the Netherlands and implemented by Adam Smith International and Kenya Markets Trust.  
The Knowledge and Results Manager, being a part of Knowledge and Results Team (KRT), is to manage the effective application of MAP’s results measurement framework across all interventions within the MAP portfolio and to enable effective reporting of programme results and performance to the board, donors and key stakeholders.

Main objectives

To manage reporting against the programme logical framework To advise sector managers in application of the Results Measurement Framework including how to construct results chains, develop measurement plans, establish attribution strategies, set baselines and undertake monitoring activities against measurement plans.To collect and analyse MAP’s results measurement data and assist the MAP senior management team in reporting on programme performance.To participate in MAP’s portfolio review. To ensure MAP’s management and measurement systems are compliant with the DCED Results Measurement Standard.Reporting to the Knowledge and Results Senior Manager, you will be expected to:Update the log frame and reporting on programme performance against the log frame targets in line with the reporting calendar. Undertake annual impact assessment of MAP sectors and ensure proper Baseline and Impact Assessment plans are conducted and executed on time either by internal or external teams.Receive tracker data from sector teams and prepare analysis pieces as needed. Support the preparation of case studies and research pieces as and when requested by Senior Manager.Organise, facilitate and contribute to the quarterly portfolio review meetings and share insights on sector performance. Background: The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries, State Department of Agriculture, is rolling out the Kenya Cereals Enhancement Programme (KCEP) whose objective is to contribute to National Food Security. 

The programme is funded by European Union through IFAD. The Ministry wishes to recruit competent and qualified persons to the following position:Knowledge Management, Communication and Visibility Officer (KCV) – Nairobi Ref. KCV04

The Knowledge Management, Communication and Visibility Officer (KVCO) will report to the Programme Coordinator.
S/he will be working very closely with the VCS and the M&E Officer; the KMCO will coordinate the establishment and operation of an integrated Programme Learning System.
The system will link five functions: learning and adaptation for continuous improvement of performance; learning oriented M&E; internal (Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) and external (stakeholders) communication; innovation and experimentation; and information management.
Duties and Responsibilities include:-
(a) Developing and implementing KCEP Learning System;
(b) Developing and implementing processes and guidelines to ensure that lessons learnt and good practices are systematically captured, shared with stakeholders and used to improve programme implementation, including the development of AWPB;
(c) Ensuring documentation and wide sharing of results;
(d) Conducting training of counterpart staff at central and county levels and in partners and service providers teams and provide assistance/guidance in implementing the Learning System.
(e) Supporting advocacy efforts through providing evidence of programme impact gathered through the M&E system;
(f) Coordinating the development and implementation of capacity building programmes for PCU staff, the counties and implementing partners;
(g) Providing assistance/guidance in implementing the Programme Learning System;
(h) Coordinating surveys and case studies to assess achievements and outcomes of KCEP activities;
(i) Coordinating the implementation of impact assessments;
(j) Fostering partnerships for broader knowledge-sharing and learning; and
(k) Contributing to the preparation of the AWPB and progress reports;
 For appointment to this position, applicants must have:-
(a) Bachelor’s degree in either Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Computer Science, Statistics, Communications or any other relevant/equivalent field. A post graduate qualification in monitoring & evaluation, knowledge management or related field will be an added advantage;
(b) Eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been in a senior management position facilitating learning processes;
(c) Proficiency in the use of databases, modern information and communication technology (ICT), and other computer applications;
(d) Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis and data management;
(e) Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing successful communication and knowledge management strategies for sustainable development, or in planning and implementing strategies at management level; (f) Experience in analysing complex programmes or policies;
(g) Ability to write reports, articles and or pamphlets depicting programme interventions and results;
(h) Strong computer and communications skills (oral, written, presentation); and

Communications and Knowledge Manager, Kenya


We are currently seeking Communications and Knowledge Manager candidates for the five-year, USAID-funded REGAL-AG project in Kenya, focused on building vibrant livestock value chains and improving the lives of producers and other marginalized value chain actors.  As the project activities are focused in the two counties of Marsabit and Isiolo, significant travel is required to these two counties.

Responsibilities:

In coordination with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party, and utilizing partners and staff, the Communications and Knowledge Manager will design, manage and implement the project’s communication strategy. A primary communications task will be to communicate project activities, success stories and results for the client, USAID, through project newsletters or similar documents.  The Communications and Knowledge Manager will also compile information from project staff, partners and beneficiaries to produce one-page newsletters and/or technical briefs that provide market information for value chain actors, as required. To communicate this information, the Communications and Knowledge Manager will lead in developing and implementing a communication strategy that utilizes various media including online platforms, a monitoring and evaluation portal for USAID, social media, and mobile apps, as appropriate.  This staff person will supervise the M&E specialist and work in close cooperation with project staff and partners. Successful applicants will have the following qualifications:

Monitoring and Knowledge Manager
CARE is seeking an experienced Girls’ Education Monitoring and Knowledge (M&K) Manager to provide dedicated technical support to the DFID-funded project ‘Kobcinta Waxbarashada Gabdhaha’ or Somali Girls Education Promotion Programme (SOMGEP) under CARE Somalia’s Rural Vulnerable Women Program. The project aims at facilitating social change amongst rural communities in order to encourage girls’ enrollment and retention in education, working closely with communities, religious leaders, community education committees and civil society.
The post will be located primarily in Hargeisa, Somaliland with travel to the head office in Nairobi, and will report to the Girls Education Initiative Manager.
Responsibilities: The M&K manager is responsible for the coordination of the baseline, midterm and final evaluations, establishment and maintenance of the project MIS, regular collection and analysis of project data from CARE, ADRA and 9 LNGO partners that demonstrates intended results are being achieved. S/he will work closely with Education Ministries to put in place an effective and comprehensive Education Management Information System (EMIS). The position will develop a robust monitoring and knowledge management system that tracks activity milestones and changes among cohorts of students in learning and attendance (among other ouputs) to help ensure payment by results. The position will also train and support partners and community education councils (CECs) to collect and verify data and conduct community-led impact evaluations, in coordination with the Program Quality Unit.

 Regional Manager, Coast and Eastern Region
Reporting to the CEO and based in Mombasa, you who will oversee the operations of MESPT in the Counties of Malindi, Machakos, Taita Taveta and the field offices in Kwale and Matuu.
 Reporting to the Business Development Services (BDS), Manager, and based in Nairobi, you will be expected to seek and disseminate information on the latest developments in Business Development Services and share it with the other practitioners in Kenya and the Region, using both traditional and more innovative information gathering and dissemination methodologies and technology.
 Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be based in Matuu and will be responsible for the management and delivery of the technical, capacity building and administrative aspects of the programme in Matuu, Kitui and Mwingi areas.

The Knowledge Management Specialist to be part of a high-level project management team for a Kenya Feed the Future Innovation Engine (KFIE) project targeting the twin challenges of food security and nutrition.

He/ She will be responsible for championing a commitment to continuously create, capture, organize, disseminate, and use information.

He / She will also play a vital integration role in support of numerous agriculture value chain actors and project implementers in Kenya by designing and implementing a unique

Learning Plan for the collection and dissemination of best practice experience.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the areas of knowledge sharing, collaborative learning, website and social media management and strategy, and strategic communications in a development context.

The candidate will possess a minimum of a Master’s Degree in relevant field with at least 9 years of knowledge management (and related fields of; knowledge sharing, peer production, organizational learning, etc.)

Experience with USAID and other donor-funded economic development programs required.

Experience in an international development context, including strategy development, knowledge auditing, assessment and reporting, training and capacity building would be an advantage.

The Agricultural Economist will be part of the team leading the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS) program for Eastern and Central Africa (ECA), reporting to the ReSAKSS Coordinator.

The objective of ReSAKSS is to provide analysis, data, and tools to promote evidence-based decision making, improve awareness of the role of agriculture for development in Africa, fill knowledge gaps, promote dialogue, and facilitate the implementation of the CAADP of the NEPAD programme of the African Union Commission and other regional agricultural development initiatives in Africa.

The Agricultural Economist will undertake analytical work based on regional priorities in agriculture and rural development. Areas of research may include regional trade analysis, food security research, agricultural investment analysis, vulnerability assessments and risk analysis, and impact assessment.

Tasks will also include the generation of policy relevant messages and communication of ReSAKSS’ work through a variety of publications, conference papers and presentations at policy fora.

Specific Qualifications
