Egerton University was founded in 1939 as Egerton Farm School and was upgraded to an Agricultural College in 1950. In 1986, the Agricultural College became a constituent College of the University of Nairobi. It was elevated to a University in 1987 through an Act of Parliament.

Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the general direction of the Vice-Chancellor the successful applicant shall:-

Have the overall responsibility of direction, organization, administration and programmes of the Division of Administration and Finance.Be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the general conduct and discipline of staff.Ensure that the University Management is properly and promptly advised to comply with all statutory and legal requirements currently in force.Ensure effective accountability to the Vice-Chancellor for the proper management of the University.Preparation and implementation of the University’s budget estimates and operational budget.Terms and Conditions of Service

Terms and conditions of service are performance based and include the following:-

Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development, is an institute of Egerton University mandated to conduct agricultural policy research in Kenya.

The Institute is looking for a highly motivated, proactive and service-oriented individual to fill the following position based in Nairobi.

Climate Change Expert

The successful candidate will offer technical support in climate change research at the Institute.

He/she will report directly to the Director, Tegemeo Institute.

Key tasks under this position shall include:

Assist in incorporating a clear research strategy on climate change into the Institute’s research agenda and the inclusion of relevant indicators to measure climate change impactsBuild capacity for researchers at the Institute on climate change and related concepts such as vulnerability and risk assessment, adaptation & mitigation measures, and climate change modelingBackstop activities to be implemented under the climate change research, which includes providing support in the development of tools and methods in analyzing risk and vulnerability to climate change, impacts of climate change as well as adaptation and mitigation responses to climate changeActively facilitate networking, sharing and managing of information with national policy makers and other stakeholders in the climate change arenaFacilitate relevant collaborative policy formulation and communication strategyHold a PhD in environmental policy management/environmental sciences, natural resources management or a related field.Applicants with MSc. in environmental policy management/ environmental sciences, natural resources management or a related field will also be consideredFor applicants with a PhD, a minimum of 3 years research work experience is required with at least 2 years research experience on climate change.

He/she should demonstrate the ability to master complex scientific issues and a broad understanding of various aspects of climate change and related environmental issuesResearch experience in Africa and an understanding of the impacts of climate change on agriculture and rural livelihood are requiredExperience in carrying out rigorous modeling using climate data and proven record to produce high quality reports and publications is requiredThe applicant should have the ability to engage with policy makers and other stakeholders at the national level, and also be able to train and mentor othersExperience working with quantitative packages and panel data is an added advantageA competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate. The Farm Manager is responsible for the management of all enterprises in the farm and will report to the Investment Manager.

The Farm Manager will be in-charge of the farm and responsible for:- day-to-day running of the farm, human resources and farm operations for both crop and livestock.

The Farm Manager shall be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for the farm in line with the University Strategic Plan.

He/She will be expected to prepare business plans for the various farm enterprises and will be responsible for the financial management of the farm.

In addition, the Farm Manager must innovatively and efficiently run the farm for optimal productivity and profitability. He/She will be responsible for updating and safekeeping of all farm records and assets. The Farm Manager shall prepare quarterly and annual reports.

Qualification:-

This position requires a person with thorough knowledge in Farm Management and farming as a business enterprise.

He/She is expected to:-

Have a Bachelor of Science degree in any Agricultural related discipline.
Candidates in possession of postgraduate qualifications in an Agricultural discipline or business management will have an added advantage.Have at least five (5) years experience in managing a large scale mixed farm with dairy and commercial crop enterprises.Be dynamic, self-driven, focused, disciplined and be a team player.Reside on the farm.Terms of Service
