1. The Boss

This should be an obvious one, but most people tend to shy away from them. They work hard to avoid them when they should be making an extra effort to get noticed. Making friends with the boss will allow you more comfort in the job as opposed to hiding under the desk every time they pass by.

This friendship should be limited to the office, company events and important get togethers; not random parties or drink ups.

2. The IT Guy

This one is a must have, especially when your computer knowledge is limited to switching on and off, opening your browser, typing in word or navigating that software everyone at the office uses but know nothing of its technical background.

Whenever you are having trouble with your computer and you’re working on a deadline, that friend you have in IT will give you priority because they feel obligated to help you.

Front office personnel have a lot of power when it comes to the company’s operations, and if you do not take a few seconds of your time to say hello, then you are headed for difficult times at the job.

Human Resource personnel are very crucial in the sustainability of your job. They will let you know what is going on in the company in terms of salary increase or cuts, open positions and even when there is a planned layoff. This will help you make informed decisions.

Identify one person in the department and work your way into their close networks.

5. The Office ‘know-it-all’

This is the person who knows everything about everyone at the office; the gossip. They will know even what is supposed to be a secret, but you should be cautious what you reveal to this connection. Don’t invite them to your out-of the office events or you’ll be sorry.
