Objective of the Programme:

DAI is preparing for an anticipated DFID programme to strengthen entrepreneurship in Africa, titled StartUP!, through regional hubs in Kenya, Ghana and South Africa. The programme will improve support for early stage companies by creating local environments in which entrepreneurs can access financial capital, skills and professional networks required to grow and scale business ideas. The programme work with in-country intermediaries, such as incubators and investment funds, generating financial and non-financial support and encouraging investment into early stage companies.

Scope of Work:

We are seeking applications from experienced business experts for Business Advisors in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. The Business Advisors will be responsible for working with incubators/accelerators/hubs for early stage companies in one of the three countries. They will provide services to these organisations in, amongst others: business planning, financial modelling, product development, and marketing strategy, They will also work with the incubator and accelerator communities in each country to extend additional services to early stage companies, which can help them improve their efficiency and business strategy.

Requirements:

· Approximately 10 years or more working with (M)SMEs and/or startup companies.

· Experience of working with business accelerators and incubators would be highly desirable. Particularly work done on defining service offerings and sustainability planning for such organisations.

· Previous experience with the Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) approach would be desirable.

· Expert knowledge of the (M)SME growth markets in Kenya, South Africa, or Ghana.

· Knowledge of product prototyping and testing would be advantageous

· Experience working with high growth tech enabled businesses would be advantageous.

· Previous experience with donor funded economic growth projects in Africa.

· Excellent English communication skills required.

· Strong qualitative and quantitative skills.

· Proven leadership, management, and communication experience

· Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation, networking and facilitation skills

· Understand key approaches to monitoring & evaluation

Education:

Degree qualified with relevant subject in Business, or Economic Development. MBA would be beneficial but not required.

We are seeking applications from highly experienced technical and managerial experts for the Country Manager positions in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. The Country Managers will be responsible for driving the effective overall delivery of the programme’s technical and managerial outputs at a country level, as well as overall management of country programme staff.

Requirements:

Investment Advisor - Entrepreneurship Development Programme in Africa

We are seeking applications from experienced investment experts for Investment Advisor positions in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. The role will consist of working with investors and intermediaries delivering business services. On the investment side, work will entail, amongst other responsibilities, support with opportunity identification and due diligence, advising on investment facility/product structuring, equity and debt transactions, supporting the development of angel and venture capital investor networks, and generating awareness about opportunities with early stage companies. With intermediaries, the work will include assisting businesses with becoming investment ready, through business plan development, product advice, investor linkages, and deal facilitation.

Requirements:

Vacancy: National Project Coordinator - Kenya
Women’s Entrepreneurship Development and Economic Empowerment
Since 2002, the ILO has been promoting women’s entrepreneurship development (WED). Women’s entrepreneurship development contributes to outcome 3: Sustainable enterprises create productive and decent jobs. Through its dedicated programme, the ILO works to enhance economic opportunities for women by carrying out affirmative action in support of women starting, formalizing and growing their enterprises, and by
mainstreaming gender equality issues into its work in enterprise development. Through its partners, ILO aims to create an enabling environment for women’s entrepreneurship that generates quality jobs, builds institutional capacity and provides tools and support services in order to serve
the strategic needs of women entrepreneurs.
A new two-year project financed by Irish Aid will enable the ILO’s WED programme to reach scale and access a new target population, by building off of existing networks of trainers and WED tools introduced in the past in the country and reaching out to new partners serving young women through the ongoing ILO-Africa Commission Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (YEF). The WED country projects (Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda) will be closely linked to a global component, focussing on knowledge sharing and generation.
The project will be based in ILO’s sub regional office in Dar-es-Salaam. The national WED project coordinator (NPC) will work within the YEF team, which covers the same countries, and implement the project’s specific activities, outputs and outcomes to further strengthen women’s entrepreneurship development and gender mainstreaming. The NPC is supervised by the Chief Technical Advisor of YEF and falls under the overall responsibility of the ILO director in Dar-es-Salaam.

Equity Group Foundation recognizes the diverse nature of the socio-economic needs of the people of Africa and has identified six programme areas on which it lays its emphasis.

These are: Education and leadership development, agriculture, entrepreneurship, health, innovation and environmental sustainability.

These programme areas support the Foundation in realizing its vision and mission.

The Foundation is implementing the Financial Education and Entrepreneurship program that has a holistic focus of creating a pathway to greater financial access (financial literacy training and access to savings and loans services) as well as providing financial advisory services to help develop, strengthen and grow women and youth micro enterprises.
