The Africa Alliance of YMCAs (AAYMCA) is seeking to recruit a project officer to achieve the advocacy targets and provide technical support to the member associations’ advocacy activities and events. 

The project officer will ensure delivery based on integrity, high quality of implementation and desired impact of the programmes.
AAYMCA is a non-profit organization with a focus on youth development that unites YMCAs in 20 countries from across Africa in order to harness resources, share experiences and address the challenge of youth development as a continental network. AAYMCA was formed in 1977, is registered as an NGO in Kenya and represents the oldest and largest Pan-African NGO network in the African continent.

The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance is a coalition of around 300 Civil Society organizations with diverse membership from 45 African countries drawn from Non-governmental organizations, Foundations, Trusts, Community-based organizations, faith-based networks, national platforms and regional/sector-based networks.
Established in 2008, PACJA aims to unify isolated civil society efforts on climate change advocacy and coordination in Africa, to ensure that pro-poor and people centered response measures are taken into consideration as governments in Africa seek to mainstream climate change into national development strategies.
 To respond to the needs of expanding and diverse membership coupled with ever-increasing demands of climate change response efforts, PACJA seeks to recruit experienced, motivated and dynamic men and women to join its Secretariat based in Nairobi, Kenya to support its work in playing a proactive role in the evolving climate change dialogue processes, both at African and international levels. The Alliance is therefore looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions:

Reporting to the Programme Manager (PM), you will be coordinating the Advocacy and communication functions of PACJA, including, but not limited to communications, lobbying, media and campaigns.

AGRA’s mission is to trigger an African-led green revolution based on smallholder farmers in 13 countries in Africa.

To achieve this, AGRA works with a range of partners, from African governments, international partners, the private sector to public institutions to lead the implementation activities.

AGRA’s Soil Health Program makes its investments in 4 sub-programs: research, extension, fertilizer policy and supply, and training and education.

The program intends to recruit consultants to facilitate the development of several key projects in its sub-programs and support in providing oversight in their implementation.

The consultant will work under the supervision of the program officers, and will engage directly through field visits and workshops with project teams to provide technical support.

A fair amount of travelling is expected.

Specific tasks:

Guiding potential grantees in developing quality projects proposalsConducting oversight on projects implementation and reportingStrengthening the capacity of the ISFM Scale-out grantees to conduct quality on-farm demonstrations, adaptive research, and analyze emerging data.Developing brief technical reports that highlight the progress of the projects and synthesize emerging lessons.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Advanced university degree (PhD/MSc or equivalent) in an agricultural related discipline, with at least 5 years post-qualification experience.Good conceptual and project development skills, including development of high quality donor-funding proposals. MSF II: Unite For Body Rights (UFBR) Programme

The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Alliance comprises of five Dutch NGO’s working in collaboration with partner organisations in nine countries in Africa and Asia for the period 2011 till 2015. Members of the Alliance comprise of Rutgers WPF (World Population Foundation), AMREF, dance4life, CHOICE and Simavi.

In Kenya the Alliance is collaborating with Centre for the Study of Adolescence (CSA), Africa Alive, Support Activities in Poverty Eradication and Health (SAIPEH), The Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK), Nairobits Trust and AMREF that are all indigenous not-for-profit nongovernmental organisations operating in Kenya.

The focus of the work will be in 40 districts in Kenya.

The Kenyan partner organisations are in a process of harmonizing and coordinating the work among themselves, as well as with other players in the field, with the aim to become even more effective in bringing sustainable and quality education and services in sexual and reproductive health and rights to the Kenyan people, especially women and youth.

To facilitate the Alliance programme building in Kenya, we are searching for a supportive, as well as stimulating National Programme Coordinator.

For effective coordination of activities, the UFBR will establish a SRHR Secretariat. The secretariat will be governed by a National Steering Committee comprising of six implementing partners.

The SRHR is looking for an individual, who is well organized, highly motivated and results oriented to join the SRHR teams and coordinate the delivery of programme objectives, to fill the following position.

AMREF Kenya National UFBR Alliance Co-ordinator

Accountability:-

Supervision:

The NPC will be hosted by AMREF Kenya and be accountable to the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) of the Kenyan Unite for Body Rights (UFBR) Alliance, in which the CEO’s of the members take seat.

Monitoring and evaluation of the NPC will be done by PAC and the Dutch Country Lead (representing the Dutch Alliance Coordinator).

Decision making:-

Prepares decisions, planning of activities and budgets for decision making by PAC, in which the NPC has an advisory role.

Responsibilities of the NPC:

Facilitate, stimulate and coordinate the Alliance Programme building process, in terms of planning, comprehensive reporting including M&E.Ensure harmonization among the members, capacity strengthening activities, exchange and advocacy initiatives, all in close coordination with the Programme Advisory Committee.Function as an intermediary between the Programme Advisory Committee in Kenya and the Dutch Alliance, through its representative based in the Netherlands, taking into account donor specific (reporting-programme and financial) requirements and needs from both sides.Represents and promotes the Alliance (not the individual members) in Kenya, overlooks the SRHR field and works on synergy between the Alliance and other stakeholders.Coordinate joint activities and meeting for alliance members and facilitate shared learning and best practices.Identify new areas of programme development and funding.Ensure smooth communication and feedback between Kenyan partners and Dutch partners and Ministry of Health.Prepare in coordination with the Chair the quarterly meetings, determine the agenda, take care of dissemination and exchange of information, take notes and keep members informed.Facilitate the elaboration of a Yearly Alliance Activities Plan, indicating everybody’s responsibilities, including of the NPC.Monitor the progress of the Alliance process, advice and exchange with the Steering Committee and the representative in the Netherlands.Be responsible for timely and quality narrative and financial reporting of the Kenyan Alliance according to the requirements of the Dutch Alliance.Be responsible for an effective organisation of planned Alliance activities, such as capacity strengthening activities, shared learning and advocacy activities, in coordination with relevant persons (stakeholders, resource persons) and in line with the available budget.Participate in yearly NPC meetings, organized by the Dutch Alliance.Masters degree in Public Health and or Social Sciences or it equivalent.At least five years experience in project management as a Programme Officer or Programme Manager, preferably in the field of human rights, public health, and/or sexual and reproductive health and rights.Support the fundamentals of the Sexual and Rights based approach.Proven experience in facilitating learning processes and alliance building.Ability to work in a supportive and respectful, as well as stimulating way, taking initiatives when need be in order to facilitate the process.Ability to work independently, as well as within a team.Experience to communicate and coordinate with a variety of partners (Alliance members, NGO’s, government at national and local level, CBO’s, etc).Proficiency in written and spoken English.Experience in alliance building and networking.

Background:

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a dynamic African-led organization that is working to catalyze a uniquely African Green Revolution, one that puts smallholder farmers first, while protecting biodiversity, promoting sustainability and advancing equity.

The organization works in partnerships to achieve a food secure and prosperous Africa through the promotion of rapid, sustainable agricultural growth driven by smallholder farmers.

AGRA aims to ensure that smallholders have what they need to succeed: good seeds and healthy soils; access to markets, information, financing, storage and transport; and policies that provide them with comprehensive support.

In working to accomplish its goal of catalyzing an agricultural revolution, AGRA is placing gender relations between men and women in households at the heart of its integrated seeds, soil health, markets, innovative finance and policy advocacy support.

In line with this commitment, AGRA is seeking the services of a Consultant or Consultancy firm to support the development of a gender policy and strategy to guide the effective inclusion of gender concerns and issues in the implementation of the priorities highlighted in AGRA’s strategy to catalyze a green revolution in Africa.

The objectives of the consultancy:

Conduct a robust consultative review of gender issues in agriculture as they relate to AGRA’s programs to identify the relevant issues, constraints and opportunities in smallholder agricultural production;Based on qualitative and quantitative results generated from consultations and secondary data review, develop a robust gender policy and strategy across AGRA’s programs – Africa seeds systems, soil health, markets access, policy and partnerships and farmer organizations support to strengthen gender responsiveness of programming at local, national and regional levels;Conduct a thorough review of AGRA’s organizational practice and culture, and recommend strategies for enhancing gender and diversity responsiveness in workplace practices and policies;Develop a substantive operational framework and gender plan of action to support implementation of proposed actions aligned with AGRA’s overall strategy;Develop a gender monitoring and evaluation framework detailing quantitatively and qualitatively measureable, reportable and verifiable gender disaggregated data and indicators to complement AGRA’s overall M&E framework.Scope of Work

Specifically, the consultant (or firm) will:

Prepare a letter of interest outlining their understanding of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the consultancy. This should include a work plan and a discussion of methods to be used to collect, analyze and present the information, including a detailed budget;Produce an inception report together with data collection tools following an initial process of consultations with the AGRA staff and key stakeholders;Submit the first draft of the strategy and facilitate a validation meeting with stakeholders to review and capture comments and feedback from the wide variety of stakeholders with recommendations derived from the analysis;The assignment is expected to take 180 working days from the date of signing of the contract.

Qualifications and Experience:

A minimum of a Master’s degree in an agriculture/natural resource management/rural development related field with demonstrated professional practice in gender analysis during the last five years.

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a not - for - profit organization formed in 2006 to work with African governments, farmers, donors, NGOs and the private sector to reduce hunger and poverty in Africa through agricultural development targeted at resource poor farmers.

AGRA has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and an office in Accra, Ghana.

AGRA is seeking to recruit a highly competent and experienced individual to fill the following position.

Data Management Assistant

This position will be based in Nairobi and will report to a Program Coordinator, Program for Africa’s Seed Systems (PASS).

Job Description

Scope: The Program for Africa’s Seed Systems (PASS) is a five-year, $150 million initiative aimed at increasing smallholder farmers’ crop yields through the development and supply of seed of improved crop varieties.

PASS is implemented via four sub-programs which fund:

1) post-graduate (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) training in plant breeding and/or seed technology;

2) breeding programs capable of generating higher-yielding, well-adapted crop varieties;

3) the creation and strengthening of private, independent seed enterprises; and,

4) the training and networking of village-level agro-dealers who market certified seed and fertilizers to smallholder farmers. PASS began operations in March, 2007.

PASS has been gathering detailed data from over 220 grants on seed production, breeding activities, demonstrations, field days, seed and fertilizer sold, and students enrolled and graduated etc.

A database has also been developed for this purpose, and is just becoming operational.

PASS, coming toward the end of its first phase of five years, is at a critical stage where accurate data is required to show progress and justify further funding. Data will also be used to establish gaps and potential linkages as PASS moves to its second phase. The need for collection of accurate, full and timely data cannot be overemphasized.

Responsibilities:

Data Management: The incumbent will be responsible for collection, organization, cleaning, entry and processing from grantees according to plans approved by the program director, program coordinator, and AGRA’s M&E unit.

This will include ensuring grantees have the requisite data sheets, preliminary grantee training on data recording, sending reminders on due dates, confirming data accuracy with grantees and program officers, recording data and dates of data received, generating monthly desktop, quarterly and annual reports.

The incumbent will likewise be responsible for uploading data into the PASS database and maintaining the overall functioning and updating of the database in consultation with AGRA IT unit.

Analysis and Data Presentation: The incumbent will be responsible for generating individual reports, tables, and figures from the collected data as required by PASS and AGRA staff or other partners such as donors.

In addition to collection and management of data for the database, the incumbent will be responsible for facts and figures which are currently maintained separately by PASS program staff which are not compatible with the database at the moment.

These include but are not limited to: post-graduate student information, training course participants, crop release traits and release data, contacts of seed affiliates, master tables and sub-tables for seed production, and tracking disbursement of loans by seed company funds.

This will be centrally maintained by the incumbent and constantly updated, and late incorporated in the larger MIS database being developed. Once developed, overall responsibility for updating this new database will form part of the responsibilities.

The incumbent will work closely with AGRA IT department, and other providers to ensure that the database is always functional, and raise any arising issues immediately.

Follow up on reports: One-third of PASS grantees are required to submit reports quarterly, while the rest report half-yearly. All grantee payments are dependent on receipt and approval of the reports. The incumbent will work with the respective program assistants and the PASS program coordinator to ensure timely grantee reporting, approvals and disbursements.

Travel grants: PASS makes approximately 20 travel grants that need to be generated, approved, paid out and accounted for. This will be handled by the incumbent.

GIFTS entries: The incumbent will be expected to update grant and grantee records as need arises.

Meeting assistance: The incumbent will be required to assist in arranging program meetings as required.

Backstop support to Program Officers and any other related duties.

Qualifications: First degree from a recognized university in computer systems, or related field.

Experience: 2 years’ working with databases including direct data entry, sorting, cleaning and generation of reports.

Special Attributes: Thorough, accurate, attention to detail, ability to work under minimal supervision, ability to work under tight deadlines.

Reporting: This position reports to the Program Coordinator PASS, and has secondary reporting to the M&E Program Officer assigned to the PASS program.

The SRHR Alliance is looking for an individual, who is well organized, highly motivated and results oriented to join the SRHR teams and coordinate the delivery of programme objectives, to fill the following position.

National UFBR Alliance Co-ordinator

Reports to the National Steering Committee and is based in Nairobi

Key Responsibilities:-

Prepare, in coordination with the Chair, the quarterly meetings, determine the agenda, take care of dissemination and exchange of information, take notes and keep members informed.Facilitate the elaboration of a Yearly Alliance Activities Plan, indicating everybody’s responsibilities, including the NPC.Monitor the progress of the Alliance process, advice and exchange with the Steering Committee and the representative in the Netherlands.Be responsible for timely and quality narrative and financial reporting of the Kenyan Alliance according to the requirements of the Dutch Alliance.Be responsible for effective organization of planned Alliance activities such as capacity strengthening, shared learning and advocacy, in co-ordination with relevant persons (stakeholders, resource persons) and in line with the available budget.Participate in yearly NPC meetings, organized by the Dutch Alliance.In liaison with the National Steering Committee, plan and coordinate national advocacy activities.Represent the interests of UFBR and participate in national level policy fora.Qualifications and Competencies:-
Preference for a candidate with a Masters Degree in Public Health and/or Social Sciences or its equivalent.
At least five years experience in project management preferably in the field of public health and/or sexual and reproductive health and rights or human rights.
Support the fundamentals of the Sexual and Rights based approach.
Proven experience in facilitating learning processes.
Ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
Experience in alliance building and coordination.
In-country knowledge and network within the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights sector and stakeholders from public, private and civil society.
Strong and proven track record in programme development and implementation, including budget and contract management of donor-funded projects.Good people management, supervisory and mentoring skills.
Must have excellent oral and written skills.This is a challenging opportunity for a dedicated and highly motivated professional.

MFS 11 WASH Programme

The Kenya WASH Alliance (KWA) is forum set up by NGOs dealing with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) issues for purposes of collaboration, sharing of experiences and advocacy.

KWA in partnership with the Dutch WASH Alliance (DWA) are initiating a five year WASH Programme in Kajiado County. This programme is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Services (MFS) under its MFS 11 Programme of the Netherlands Government.

The objective of the Programme is to reduce poverty through improved environmental health and economic conditions by empowering people, and creating an enabling environment aiming at achieving increased sustainable access to and use of safe water and sanitation services and improved hygiene practices for the local community particularly women and marginalised groups.

For effective coordination of activities, the KWA will establish a WASH Secretariat. The secretariat will be governed by a National Steering Committee comprising of six implementing partners.

Purpose of the Job

Liaison with other WASH actors to coordinate actions, share experiences and develop joint coherent approaches for sustainable WASH programming in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, implement and monitor MFS II funded Kenya WASH Alliance joint Project activities.Lead the participatory development of joint project strategies and detailed designs of project activities.Lead in the development and monitoring of work plans and budgets for joint activities.Overall management of the Secretariat, promote and strengthen partnership in line with partnership agreements of the Kenya WASH Alliance.Lead in the production of donor reports and ensure compliance with donor requirements.Support monitoring and evaluation of the project, in line with the Kenya WASH Alliance framework.Oversee implementation of joint project activities conducted by the partners in Kajiado County.Manage recruitment, selection and contracts with external consultants for implementation of joint activities.Effective management of financial, logistical and administrative needs of the Secretariat.Support the development of joint WASH Alliance proposals for fundraising.The ideal candidate should have a Masters Degree in Public Health, Sanitary Engineering or relevant Social Science discipline with at least five years programming work experience on social components of WASH service delivery at senior level.
Experience in alliance building and networking.

Strong and proven track record in programme development and implementation, including budget and contract management of donor funded projects.
