Department of Treasury

Pursuant to the constitution of Kenya (2010) and the County Microfinance Corporation Act, 2014, the County Government of Meru established a Microfinance Corporation mainly with the objective of providing microfinance banking services to small and medium enterprise, undertaking any business related microfinance banking, carry out such other roles necessary for the better purpose of this Act, key among others.

The management of the Corporation shall vest in the board of directors and therefore wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions.
1. Two professionals to the board and
2. The Managing Director who shall be an ex officio member of the board
 Be a Kenyan citizenHolds a degree in economics, Business law, finance, accounting, business or any related field from a recognized universityHas experience of at least five years in management andMeets the requirement of chapter Six of the constitutionA person shall not be a member of the Board;
a) Unless the person is fit and proper to be in a Board of microfinance bank as prescribed by the Central Bank

Job DescriptionThe global microfinance movement has thousands of institutions and is starting to explore how to serve farmers, who are the majority of the world’s poor. One Acre Fund is growing the largest network of smallholding farmers in Africa, and proving that loans to smallholder farmers can be commercially viable. We are challenging ourselves to think big, and to invest resources into figuring out how to help the microfinance movement more seriously consider serving the world’s farmers.

We are genuinely interested in helping to promote and shape the emerging agriculturalmicrofinance movement. The Microfinance Partnerships Manager will lead One Acre Fund’s work to help bring together other organizations with experience in agriculture microfinance. S/he will help form an association of these organizations, develop core principles, and develop structures to incentivize other organizations to enter agriculture microfinance.

Separately, s/he will explore the eventual possibility of operating partnerships between One Acre Fund and other organizations (most likely microfinance organizations, but could be other organizations that are interested in serving rural farmers at scale).

We are seeking an exceptional mid-career professional with microfinance/financial access experience (preferred) or other base-of-the-pyramid business experience to serve as Microfinance Partnerships Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Microfinance Partnerships Manager will perform the following and other duties as assigned:

Build meaningful and genuine one-on-one relationships with worldwide microfinance leaders and other organizations interested in serving rural farmers at scale.

Travel frequently within East and West Africa in particularLeverage One Acre Fund’s existing relationships to discover new relationshipsBuild real relationships with some of the most effective organizations in the world

Help to build the overall agricultural finance movement.

Responsible for the launch and the management of the Group lending program and portfolio;Responsible for the commercial success of the Group lending operations; reporting directly to the Head of Business Development;Develop and implement strategies for the rapid expansion of the Group Lending program and ensure that business targets in terms of growth and quality are achieved;Develop and pilot the basic Group Lending product and lending methodology in urban, semi-urban and rural areas;Work closely with management and clients to develop the Group lending methodology and processes;Ensure that credit policies and procedures are accurately applied throughout all Group Lending branches;Be responsible for all human resource development aspects related to the Group Lending program, in particular recruitment and selection, training and performance management systems;Directly supervise Credit Officers of the Group Lending program;Facilitate controls and audits by the Risk and Internal Audit departments.To deliver superior customer service to new and existing customers in becoming pre-eminent in the marketTo effectively receive and interview clients within the assigned delivery channels in order to concentrate on sales targets, and to sell products offered by the company within company policy and legislative requirements.To ensure standards pertaining to marketing and customer service are exceeded and that every opportunity of selling a variety of products to a customer is maximized.Diploma or Degree in management/finance/economics/business studies or social sciences. 3-5 years of relevant experience, (i.e. related to group lending) in a micro finance institution/ bank. (This requirement is a must)Experience in developing and implementing urban and/or rural credit products;We are looking for candidates who are; highly motivated, eager to learn, self-confident, appreciative of a challenge, persistent, competitive, able to cope with rejection, have great listening skills, physically and mentally energetic. Yehu Microfinance Trust has been growing steadily and is now seeking radically accelerated growth. The Board of Trustees is looking for a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process minded leader with experience scaling organization, leading a team of staff in the operations function and enhancing a performance culture among a group of talented and committed individuals.

Key Responsibility

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operations Officer (COO) is primarily responsible for leading and managing comprehensively the Credit Program at Yehu Microfinance Trust.

The COO will take leadership in expanding the current 6 Branch outlets, all located in the immediate former Coast Province before the promulgation of the New Kenya Constitution, to new market outlets as outlined in its strategic business plan.

The Successful individual will be responsible for all strategies and activities of managing a healthy rapidly growing portfolio within the framework of the vision and mission of Yehu Microfinance Trust.

Key Qualifications

As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of Yehu Microfinance Trust and be driven by the mission. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for uplifting socio-economic livelihoods among the marginalized.

Beyond that, Yehu is looking for an individual that has proven experience in scaling similar organizations under constraining framework and demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a self-driven and motivated team.

The successful candidate will most likely have had experience in the Microfinance field at management level for not less than FOUR years. Experience in managing value driven similar organization will be an added advantage.
